Agreed - his defense was underrated by much of the league in his Norris-winning year, but this year he has jumped the shark a little bit - still a young kid, recently divorced (I'm sure she was a fine chick, not after his money at all) and he lost his Alfie. I'm curious to see how he's looking next year.

Tough to say. In terms of value, yes I would, but if I were wanting to win now, no, as I see karlssons in ability to defend as something difficult to compensate for. Switching out phaneuf for karlsson would only exacerbate an issue that is already hindering the Leafs.

I think it should be fairly easy to some type of correlation. For example giveaways as a computed ratio of TOI and points might be a reflection of balance. In the case of Karllson it really is staggering how much his puck possession appears to increase as the season continues. It is clear that he controls the Senators attack from all settings on the ice.
