Agreed. Simply making the playoffs this year is a WIN for the sens, given their injuries. Let the scrubs (term of endearment) ride it out - Morris
Realistically the Sens would do well to get past the first round, if they could beat either the Bruins or the Habs, but the Penguins are locked and loaded and ready to advance to the SCFs............and may still be looking for more ammo, perhaps Jarome Iginla?
that guy is wacko
just get over it, move on the team is playing well without him - senstroll
He is absolutely a little bit crazy. In addition to this instance, there is also the ridiculous trojan intro that apparently was his brain child. There is him proclaiming his players would have to take a Stanley Cup discount to play for the Senators years ago. And he was a little crazy in the Heatley debacle, in some of the things he said.
But, I sometimes wonder if it would be better to have him for an owner, or the teachers/Rogers/Bell/big corporation. There are two sides to it. He's the Senators biggest fan. The biggest delusional homer there is. And that's kind of cool, and fun. He can be embarrassing, but it certainly lends some character to the team having a fanboy as owner.

Yeah, I miss Harold Ballard, he was always good for a few gems.
Was it him that wanted Roger Neilson to come out with a paper bag on his head a few days after he was fired, as the "new" coach, after they didn't have anyone to coach the team?

I would be very concerned if I were a Sens fan. If he gets back into games, does it really seem like a good idea to jeopardize the future for likely a round or two of playoffs? Wouldn't it be wise to give him until next season?

Nothing I've heard or read is suggesting he's anywhere near coming back this season.
I'm positive the team doctors would never allow him to return to the line up unless they're more than 100% positive he would not be putting himself in any danger to further injure himself in any way.
But it is surprising to see how well he is skating, but it's a long long way from beating out an icing call with Milam Lucic in full pursuit.

Hey, I’m no doctor. But this early, I’d still be questioning it. I would certainly hope there isn’t pressure from management, to get him in the lineup. You say you are 100% confident they wouldn’t, but it wouldn’t be the first time a player has been rushed back, only to injure himself even worse. Andrei Markov would be a perfect example.

yesterday he did some shooting drills. the goalie he shot on? Dr. Don Chow, the guy who performed the surgery.
I think the only pressure is from karlsson himself. Maclean didn't even know he was skating until reporters told him.

reports now saying 3-4 weeks. not sure if they are accurate, but the way he is skating i don't consider it a long shot.

This is all very lovely and nice. But this sounds so remarkably close to the things they said about Markov when he came back quickly last year. For his sake, I hope it's fine. But I'd be very concerned. The Sens aren't contenders this year. Why risk it?

Yes, without Karlsson, Spezza, Michalek and Cowen in the lineup, the Senators aren't contenders.
However there are now indications that Michalek will be back soon, and perhaps even Cowen at the end of the season. If Karlsson can also rejoin the team in the playoffs the only missing piece of the puzzle is Spezza who with back problems is looking the least likely to return now, if the rumours have any truth to them, the Senators can perhaps make it to at least the second round IF they have a favourable opponent in the first round.
That being said, I think it would be a stretch to see either Spezza or Karlsson back with the team this season or the playoffs. So in the best interests of the team and the players they'd be better off not taking the chance of playing this season, and wait for next season.
If Pittsburgh does not win the conference, then I expect either Boston or Montreal to win it, and Ottawa does not match up with either of these teams with their depleted line up.

No, they're not really contenders with or without these guys. Compare the lineups to the likes of the top teams in either conference, and it's not in Ottawa's favour.

That's what I think is the best case scenario for the Sens. Don't risk it.
