Based on last year's play, do you think that Leaf fans now believe that Karlsson might have a better chance this year of being able to break into the blue and whites starting four?

Based on last year's play, I'd play him third line even strength, and find a really strong defensive Dman to cover up for him, then pull him out for the PP almost 10 minutes a game.

I will forward your opinion onto Paul MacClean. It is apparent that he made a huge mistake in playing the kid 25 minutes a game.

Karlsson had the most even strength points in a single season by any defenceman going back at least as far as '97-'98 (before which point NHL.com doesn't have any stats for and I'm not going to hunt around on another website).
Not sure what gives the impression that he's a powerplay specialist.

Point production is important and Karlsson can probably come close to a 100 point season sometime over the next few years. A much larger consideration is his ability to push his team to win. Does he have the heart and desire to match the wInning drive of a Scott Niedemayer?
Why are you even questioning his heart? Is this a shot at Euros?
Would you have mentioned that if his name was Gardiner? - dawgzhouse
I think that lots of names get tossed around about who is the best comparable with the kid. I'm inclined to think that Scott Niedemayer is the gold standard. He played the game really well, he was a beautiful skater, controlled the power play and always was able to anticipate and find the open man with a breakout pass. More important, Niedemayer was a winner. Great Dmen help their teams compete for the Stanley Cup.
Ottawa has an incredible array of young talent. They are going to be very strong a few years out. They are going to score a lot of goals. But, can Karlsson push them to compete for a Stanley Cup. This is the real test for every Norris winner.
