again I ask,
Its worked for over 40 years, why wouldn't a NEW arena work with out Public Transit??
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Has it really worked since 1990? They are near the bottom in attendance every year and only in the 2002-2003 season did they have very good attendance with 23 sellouts |

Exactly.. there was a product on the ice worth watching in 02-03 & the place was packed.. without mass transit.
Would mass transit make the place even better.. of course.. All im saying... is that NVMC has worked for 40 years without it.
Concerts sell out, shows sell out, events sell out, even a few Islander games sell out. The lack of mass transit has never been a hindrance to the arena.
There has been talk for years of a Monorail from NVMC to the train station... that would be awesome & I dont know why its not been included in any of the plans for the area. Strike that.. i know why it hasnt been included... WHo the F would pay for that thing? not Wang, LIRR?? Naa they always cry poor.. Nassau? they are broke.... seems like a pipe dream... but it would be nice.

If you work in the city, it's pretty much impossible to get to a weeknight game on time. I think that is where it hurts them the most not having a rail line. Hofstra and NCC should chip in for that. $20,000 a year now at Hofstra. I think it has no chance of happening unless the state or fed government paid for it as part of a jobs program.

Bad night around the league for the Isles. Anyone who could have gotten points around us got 'em. Just goes to show you how quickly everything turns in the "new NHL" and how important every game is. The talk on here has been about how they got better since last year, but as of today they're right back where they've been for the last few years...bottom 5 in the league. |

We also have a game in hand on some of those teams if not 2, and even 3 (WPG). I don't think the playoffs are happening this year regardless but the only thing that matters is that the Isles take care of their own business. Don't worry though, Brian Rolston's game has to turn around one of these games. Book it! |

Why exactly wouldnt it work, its worked for over 40 years.
Would it be better with public transit?? Of course
But it comes down to being competitive.. they Ice a winning team... the Arena as it stands now would be packed.
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
So true, so true.
.The Arena $ucks and the team $ucks! Yet, Isles draw average of 12,500 fans per game
You have a winner and fans will flock. Interest will peak. Revenue will rise. And low and behold. You have a New Arena. Maybe even draw a few quality UFA's in the process.
AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!
Pretty simple, hey xXx? |

NO one living on LI will ever agree to an additional rail system if it comes any where near their homes or neighborhood. And since there is no way to avoid that. It wont happen.
The LIRR as it exists is one thing. Its been there for ever. But Adding an additional rail line will never pass any kind of vote. Besides. Its not necessary.
As xXx stated. You ice a quality team and the place will be packed. Isles fan base is not located in NYC its located on LI.
As stated when we discussed The Barkley Center. LIer's love their cars. They will not take Trains from Nassau ,Suffolk or even Queens to attend a game at NVMC.
Fans from NYC? Yes but they are a very small % IMO.
Again!
Fix the team. And like dominoes, all the problems will get solved. And You get the New Arena |

I have several friends that live on the Island or Queens and work in the city. They don't EVER come to weeknight games. Three of them have Mets ticket plans because they can take the train or Subway there.

This thread is too long and I have too much on my plate to stay online for long, but has the Neiderriter situation been discussed in this thread or any recent ones? Watching the past couple of games it is obvious that he shouldn't have been played at this level this season and that playing him on the 4th line has been an even bigger mistake.
Why would I say this? Because he looks like he's (finally) coming into his own and that the 4th line minutes only hurt him, not help him. He could have spent some more time down, this season, especially coming off the groin issue. To me, his confidence has been shot all season until just recently. This is a guy who was averaging 2 points a game his whole career until this year, and throwing him on the 4th line was a huge mistake. I know, we as Isles fans should be used to this, but, this organization needs to stop this practice. Anyone would be better off playing these minutes. Not a 5th overall pick. Should have had a grinder play in this spot, and let Nino get his 30 and 30 in the minors and given him a fresh start in 2012. At least, they should have left him down and then brought him up ONLY if an injury occurred to a top 9 forward.
At this point, what do you do? You have to play him, but why not at least put him up to the 3rd line. Get him off a checking/hustle line, it makes no sense. I mean, Jesus, he's playing with 2 guys who can't hit the side of barn, let alone the back of a net. |

Well, of the players I've seen (I'm only 16) Rolston is right up there. No intensity, no hustle, no second effort. |

Every time that guy sets foot on the ice the team as a whole loses what little credibility they have left(is there any?). |

Muller didn't want to play here, that was his excuse. Rolston wants to "play" here and is still the most brutal thing I've seen. He's a (frank)ing disgrace and a disgrace to this team! |
