I totally understand. There are definitely many leafs fans who b*tch about Schenn not being where he should be, completely ignoring the fact that he's only 22 and is playing fantastic considering his age, the team, the goalies behind him and the city he plays in. Put him in every trade rumor out there but also want a top return for him.

I don't want to see Schenn traded unless he is part of a package for a better player who fills a need for the Leafs. Schenn may take some time, but he will be a solid defender in this league for a longtime.

That said, I am willing to see him moved. I think the reason we see him in so many trade proposals is that we have a lot of quality young defensemen and several that bring what Luke brings to the table (to a lesser or greater degree, depending on the qualities you are looking at), and it is presumed that Luke would offer the greatest return of the group if offered up in a trade.

And for the record I wouldn't trade him for JVR, if the Leafs are going to trade him; make it worth while and take that big step towards getting that #1 centre they need so badly...not a "supposed to be" in JVR. Not saying JVR won't pan out, but Toronto doesn't need more "potential" they need "delivering" given that Burke is trying to win now.

Look, I read here how every Oiler and Philly prospect is worth top stars in the league, but every time someone mentions Toronto Prospects, they are deemed busts. Hodgson, JVR, Couturier, MPS, Omark, Simmonds, B.Schenn may all be stars one day or they could fall to roll players. Same holds true for Kadri, L.Schenn, Colborne from the Leafs, but Leaf fans need to put all of them together to aquire one of the aforementioned prospects. How does that make sense to anyone here?

Yup, 100% agree. As soon as those words are used it completely derails the conversation and changes everything.

Leaf fans have so far over-rated Schenn. He's big and physical, but has slow feet and gets beat to the outside often.
He won't be a shutdown guy unless he works on his skating and closing the gap. While I would love to see him develop into an Adam Foote, presently he reminds me more of a Hal Gill.

He doesn't need to work on his skating that much, he is working on his positioning and angles at a higher speed. That's why he gets beat sometimes. He also has to work on what he can get away with in front of the net.

As I said: A few more years, if he can learn and he'll be that reliable shutdown guy

He's 22-years-old and still has a helluva way to go in his development. Can he become a top-pairing defenceman? I guess it's possible, but not on his current trajectory. I think he's more talented than a Hal Gill, but I don't know if he'll ever reach Adam Foote territory. For me, I think Schenn turns into a Brooks Orpik-level defenceman at best.

Actually, when Dreger reported the Leafs' renewed interest in JVR last night, Luke Schenn was never mentioned at all. All he said was that Philly would likely want a defenceman back. I'm confused as to where this "Luke Schenn +" package came from as it certainly wasn't from TSN. Have a look here:
