Liles and Armstrong... "Big contributors" - MillerTime1130
Liles is arguably our best defencemen. He's been bar none our most steady puck mover, and our offence from the blue line has suffered with him out of the lineup.
Armstrong is a gritty chippy player who puts up the occasional points, and creates a lot of turnovers. We've sorely missed him in the lineup as well. |

This is a pretty good and fairly reasonable analysis. You must be on the wrong board
In evaluating a prospect or young player you look at a bunch of things - ceiling, likelihood to reach potential, typical development arc for position (goalies, power forwards, etc develop slower), tools, value of position, etc.
I think JVR's tools are a little better for his position (skating, passing, shot) than Schenn's (big hitter, but less mobile) at this point. Both still have large upsides, and I'm assuming that both are likely to reach potential in < 2 years.
The reality though is a big strong power forward is worth more than a strong, big hitting defensive defensman. Right now mobility is the top quality in the NHL, and that will hurt Schenn's value. - TheGreat28
100% agree.
So you're right, it doesn't belong on this board |

They're scared of Grammar too.
As far as Will Ferrell's concerned, I'll take a line from Celebrity Jeopardy:
"Welcome back to celebrity jeopardy, I would like to begin by asking our contestants to please refrain from using ethnic slurs"
LOL, nothing Will Ferrell's ever done has been as good as those C.J. skits - AngryWhiteMale

He isn't overrating Schenn's value at all.
He's league top 10 in hits.
Leads the Leafs in +/-
He does most of his dirty work on teams that like to cycle.
Let's just put it this way Flyer's fans...If we give you Luke Schenn, then that means for the next however long, we will have to deal with a team that has BOTH Schenns. I can't imagine them being on the same team and NOT playing incredibly well together.
So if PHI is serious about replacing Pronger, who won't come back, and if he does, probably won't be the same defenceman, then you will need to pay up as it simply doesn't makes sense for us to trade this guy within our conference unless the deal's good for us - AngryWhiteMale
If the goal is to replace Pronger, were not going to get Schenn.
And for the record, the chances of Pronger coming back next season are slim and none. Whether he comes back at some point next season or the year after, I have no idea.
Personally, I'd rather the guy just take his time and try and come back whenever feels he's capable. Id rather him get be concerned with his long term health right now. He is really, really (frank)ed up.

But like I said, we got some big contributors back and we play Ottawa and Winnipeg. We have a very good chance at a jump. - clarkysduster
Sure, you might get a jump on Ottawa, but the Caps and Devils could easily get a jump on both of you.
And it's not like Winnipeg and Ottawa are just going to roll over.
The safe bet in those kind of games is to go with the team with the better tenders.
If the leafs need anything it is a vet tender who has played well this year and has the experience to not collapse under the pressure. |

He's dreaming about making a pitch at top ufa players? If they hit the UFA market the leafs will make a pitch for them, as will 29 other teams. The chances of the leafs getting them? Slim to none, as they'll be looking for long term huge money deals that are front loaded. - Scruffton
New CBA may take care of some of the issues the Leafs have with those long term deals. |

You know of course that Dreger is Nonnis' cousin (or related somehow) right? Well I think the whole thing was a bluff. Dreger always devalues the Leafs in trade rumours, because he doesn't want to look like a homer.
I like what Juice said.
JVR had great potential when drafted (2nd) that he has not lived up to.
Schenn was similar in his draft position (5th) and his current play.
I am not saying that Schenn is the next Pronger, but I also saying Kadri and Schenn (that has been mentioned here) for JVR is wrong. I think they are very similar. But the Leafs don't need JVR right now.
A package could have meant salary dump as well. - stevecarpetman
The truth is, we don't. The size would be nice, and I would rather have JVR over, say Kadri. but we have a glut of wingers right now, so adding one doesn't make sense unless a regular, like, say, MAC, goes the other way.
Like I said, in order for PHI to justify giving them Luke Schenn they'd need to spike the punch as we're not in a position of vulnerability on that front |
|
|
|
Actually, when Dreger reported the Leafs' renewed interest in JVR last night, Luke Schenn was never mentioned at all. All he said was that Philly would likely want a defenceman back. I'm confused as to where this "Luke Schenn +" package came from as it certainly wasn't from TSN. Have a look here:

It was the first time the rumour appeared. Weeks ago, before the JVR concussion. |

Call me crazy....BUT is it beyond the realm of possibility that we just stay on course? I mean, we're 7th right now, the 6th place team has played what, 2 more games than us? and we're two points back and play them on Saturday? We just took 3/4 points from one of the hottest teams in the league and we're getting our key contributors back...
I'm hoping we stay the course, get a taste of playoffs and make a pitch for Parise in the offseason and the following offseason we'll pitch for Getzlaf.
Probably too sane for Hockeybuzz...sorry guys. - clarkysduster
Part of the issue is getting value for expiring contracts and ensuring the team stays on a track of continual growth... |

Im just quoting what the rumor was going around that if a deal would go down that would be what the deal would look like. And I agree that Kadri and Schenn for JVR is overpayment...but i would see a deal like Schenn and a second for JVR or Schenn and Kadri for JVR and a second

WOW. I can't believe a Sabres fan just made a joke about the playoffs. - clarkysduster
Sorry to burst your bubble... but.. No team that is 25th in the NHL in goals allowed per game.. and is 29th in the NHL in Penalty Killing is going to make it into the playoffs..
Sabres will not make it in nor am I saying they will.. so no need to rebuttle with that... what else you got? |
