They did him a huge favour with the buy out...oppurtunity to make another 9 million from colorado....while still getting ...what 2/3rds of his sarlary over time from the Leafs! Good deal for Darcy - iLive4theLeafs

Kubina at his cap hit in Toronto, that was a good move to get rid of him.
Kubina at his cap hit now is obviously a good player to have but that wasn't the case at the time. - leafs93
It's hard to fathom that Kubina was actually considered part of the Muskoska five....the guy probably couldn't find Muskoka on a map let alone own a cottage up there.
My location is in reference to Ek........ back in 2010 for the entrie season all he kept churping about was a three way deal with MTL-Edm and Dallas - faceto27
I don't remember that? 2010 all I remember hearing about was Kaberle.

Kubina deal was stupid. Fans and media were screaming for Kubina to be kicked out of town - for absolutely no reason. MLSEL should have stepped up to the mic and told everyone to shut up - Kubina was a decent hockey player with a decent contract. Instead, we dumped him for garbage, and signed Komisarek. Need I remind you how that turned out?
I'll grant you deeming the Stempniak deal a bad one has a little bit of 20/20 hindsight to it. But he then exploded in Phoenix, so I'm going to say that a shrewd hockey mind like Burke should have been able to see the talent was there. - Atomic Wedgie
That whole "Muskoka Five" thing that the media whipped up was ridiculous.
For some reason, our 5 most productive players were singled out as the reason for all of our futility. And some fans bought it.
Wasn't it Cox who coined the phrase? Or was it Simmons?
