Fair enough, but I don't know if the Poni one is really a bad deal, he hasn't exactly been consistent or good since then. Stempniak is probably the worst since he's been pretty good since leaving TO. - Domaju
Kubina at his cap hit in Toronto, that was a good move to get rid of him.
Kubina at his cap hit now is obviously a good player to have but that wasn't the case at the time.
I have no idea what that poster was referring to when he said Burke made 4 bad deals. He is clueless - faceto27
Dude, that was me.
Since you obviously didn't read the original post before tossing out an insult, here is the section in question (re: the Kessel deal)
Yeah, the deal was not good. It wasn't Gomez bad, or Lupul/Gardiner Bad, or Phaneuf bad... but it was bad.
I think the only reason Burke isn't on the chopping block is we were on the winning end of 2 of those 4 horrible trades... 3 if you want to include Franson as part of the Lombardi salary dump.
... the discussion, since you didn't bother to read, was comparing the Kessel deal to other bad deals.
The discussion was started by me as an arguement that the Kessel deal was not as bad as some other deals.
NOWHERE did I say Burke made 4 bad deals. In fact, read the highlighted part please, where I clearly said he was on the WINNING end of 2 of them.
Before you toss out an insult, you should make sure you understand what was written.
I don't mind politely disengaging from a debate that is going nowhere but don't misquote me and then call *me* clueless.
If we had Seguin and he was putting up Bozak numbers every Leaf fan would be saying we should have grabbed Kessel. - leafs93
Exactly. I've said it before, I think I said it early this season. There's no guarantee that Seguin would even turn into the player he's becoming if he was a Leaf. For all we know, he'd be a bust if he was in the Toronto system.

... no, but he would certainly be called a bust, because he is a Leaf, regardless of any success or failure.
I know right. Best in the NHL. They just don't win every game because they don't want to flaunt their talent and make other teams look bad and end up taking fans away from them. Especially teams like Florida, Phoenix and Columbus who don't have many fans to begin with.
They replace those two Mounties each time Toronto and/or Detroit win the cup. The guy on the left represents Detroit...the guy on the right...well... - Juice

Why are the Kubina and Stempniak deals bad ones? At the time, fans and media were screaming to ride Kubina, Kaberle, McCabe, etc. out of town because of their ridiculous contracts. He did exactly that...Sure Caputi and Exelby didn't amount to much...but that wasn't the goal at the time. The problem was using that new cap space to sign Komisarek. - p_zub
Kubina deal was stupid. Fans and media were screaming for Kubina to be kicked out of town - for absolutely no reason. MLSEL should have stepped up to the mic and told everyone to shut up - Kubina was a decent hockey player with a decent contract. Instead, we dumped him for garbage, and signed Komisarek. Need I remind you how that turned out?
I'll grant you deeming the Stempniak deal a bad one has a little bit of 20/20 hindsight to it. But he then exploded in Phoenix, so I'm going to say that a shrewd hockey mind like Burke should have been able to see the talent was there.

I can't believe Darcy Tucker is still a cap hit until 2013-14.

They did him a huge favour with the buy out...oppurtunity to make another 9 million from colorado....while still getting ...what 2/3rds of his sarlary over time from the Leafs! Good deal for Darcy
