Or you realize you're extremely fortunate to play a game for a living for millions of dollars a year. I don't feel bad for him at all.
- funmaster18

I dont think anyone feels bad for Carter. Im just stating that I think Carter can be a very good player to acquire before the TDL. I still believe Carter has good to great value on the trade market.

I understand why he was upset, but you can't act like he did-and continued to act according to rumors.

You go there, tell them, look, I don't want to be here, please try to trade me, and go out and bust your ass for the team until they can move you....because if you go there and act like an emotionally unstable guy who will fold at the drop of a hat, nobody will want to trade for you and you'll be stuck there

- Jsaquella

I don't think that trade could have turned out any worse for CBJ thus far really. Cooter AND Jake are contributing to the Flyers now. Cooter at the All Star game as a rookie. Carter hurt all year.. what a mess for them.

The Sabres GM would jump at a chance to get him because the owner would force him to do so.

Those two teams could make a solid deal that would benefit both teams quite well

Carter's pissed in Columbus, a stone's throw from tons of college aged women and bars...how happy is he going to be in Buffalo?

Making it even worse? Nick Cousins looks like he could be a player, too.

Guess they felt they could get a possible 40 goal scorer and young talented player. They took a chance and it backfired (this year).

I wonder about the thought process of people that label him a bust because of 1 play
- funmaster18

Not a bust. Still a good player. Just not clutch imo. Can't all be a Briere or Giroux.

I am saying that he shouldn't feel bad or deceived at all. I wasn't commenting on other people's opinions

Exactly. He's a really good player. Won't carry a team on his back, won't always come through with a clutch play, but will definitely help a hockey team.

That was a microcosm of many times he didn't seem to come through in the playoffs. I still like Carter, but I think he could have done more in the postseason.

Just when I thought this NFL season couldn't get any better, this gift from the gods today! Juan Castillo is back, and he's back big!

I was worried when it first went down, but it looks one sided as of right now.

The Detroit Red Wings are last in the NHL in fights with seven. They're the only team that's not in double digits in terms of number of fights. That being said, the Red Wings are not likely to look to acquire a fighter before the trade deadline. "No, not someone who fights, because to me, that is a waste of time," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "Fighting? What are you going to do, fight at the stoppages in the playoffs? I think you've got to play. Now, if you're capable of playing and doing both, then that's great. But that wouldn't be a priority."

Interesting. Who needs an enforcer.

- stveshdy

It's nice to know Babcock agrees with me. Maybe I should make a t-shirt.

I felt it was a fair trade at the time, but it's been a steal in the early going for the Flyers

The confusion came in because Pronger was 34 when he signed the contract, but because it was an extension the contract didn't kick in until after he was 35. I think this was the first time something like this happened and instead of trying to re-work a deal, the Flyers just said they were ok with the contract as it stands.
- RooNosHockey

Once they signed it, it was a deal. There was no reworking as an option.

So basically, they couldn't get anyone else to do it.

Probably. Carter's best season came on a line with Hartnell and Lupul, neither of whom are noted playmaking types. Or maybe they expected Carter to carry the load on a line with guys like Umberger and Huselius and provide good secondary scoring.
- Jsaquella

If I'm the GM of CBJ I have to know how disappointed Carter would be with that deal. I'm not making the deal without permission to talk to him first and we all know that wasn't going to happen. It was a clusterfudge in the making right from the get go.

Didn't Carter's Limited Trade Clause kick in this season? So now he can name 10 teams he doesnt want to be traded too. Buffalo, Phoenix, Dallas, carolina, Colorado, Florida, Winnepeg, Minnesota, St. Louis, & Nashville. At least he doesnt have to include Columbus on the list of the most boring NHL cities...lol

I think Carter for Couturier would have been a steal for us if that was the deal straight up. Not a knock on Jeff, but props to Couturier.

All I know is, that's the first time I have ever seen a team's GM and star player fly out to beg their prized off season addition to come out of his cave and man up.

Not sure if anyone saw the NHL36 after the all-star game, but Nicklas Lidstrom was featured. His nickname in Detroit is the perfect human. Amazing how regimented he is, and how well respected he is by everyone.

At 41, he's still the best dman in the sport. I can't imagine being a 20 something year old NHL player and having a 41 year old be light years better. That has to be humbling.

Thank (frank)ing Christ. I was worried that the Flyers would overpay for him
