I cant blame him for being pissed off about going to Columbus. Who the hell wants to go there for the next 10 years (the franchise sucks). I dont think Carter handled it correctly but I do understand why he was so emotional about it.

Can't blame him either for being upset, but he truly came off as an idiot. Seems like he knew he had it great here, and forgot the business side of the sport. I'm sure that was a rude awakening.

No, it won't but the bigger issue is him being mad at getting traded and sulking about it with 10 years left on his deal.
- Jsaquella

If I'm a team that's in serious playoff contention from year to year I'm not too worried about the attitude. Most GM's can understand a guy being disappointed in having signed a 10 year deal with the Flyers and then having the rug pulled out from under him. I'd be more concerned about the injuries.

Personally I'd be most concerned about his clutch ability in the playoffs but I'll admit I'm biased there.

I would have been. The money is irrelevant. These guys still want to win. He basically went from thinking he was going to spend the rest of his career playing for the cup in a Hockey Mad Town with killer nightlife and the shore, to Columbus.....

The money is irrelevant because he was getting paid the same either way...so that didn't change...

I would have been pissed.....

I'm sure that issue won't come up in Columbus.

I understand why he was upset, but you can't act like he did-and continued to act according to rumors.

You go there, tell them, look, I don't want to be here, please try to trade me, and go out and bust your ass for the team until they can move you....because if you go there and act like an emotionally unstable guy who will fold at the drop of a hat, nobody will want to trade for you and you'll be stuck there

I truly wonder what would have happened with Carter if Brian Campbell hadn't got his stick in the way of Carter's top corner wrister in Game 6.

I think it was more of a shock for him. He signed a long term deal thinking he would be in Philly for the rest of his career. If Carter was traded to Chicago, Detroit, SJ, etc. you wouldnt of heard one complaint from him. He is making millions of dollars but im sure he still wants to play for a competitive team and have a chance at winning also.

If I'm a GM, I have to sell a ten year deal to the team owner. That's a bigger obstacle than anything. Plenty of guys have had bad playoff years, and then went nuts and had huge runs.

I agree. I dont think Carter has done enough damage to his reputation that teams wont trade for him. He has been hit with a ton of injuries this year and that has affected his production on the ice.

Or you realize you're extremely fortunate to play a game for a living for millions of dollars a year. I don't feel bad for him at all.

Actually, I still think he would've been upset if he got traded to any of those teams, but maybe a little less so. I think it had a lot to do with thinking you're gonna spend the rest of your career playing with your best buddy. And the he gets traded too. And all of those teams are farther away from Sea Isle than Philly.

I honestly have no clue why CBJ made that deal. Did they really envision Carter and Nash playing together?

When you look at both trades, I would rather be in Richards spot than Carters.

I think teams will still be interested in trading for him, but no way does a team trade what Columbus paid for him.

I'm sure adding a "star" like player was partially for ticket sales. Temas like CBJ don't get the chance to get players like Jeff too often.

In the end, I thank them for making the deal.

The Sabres GM would jump at a chance to get him because the owner would force him to do so.

Those two teams could make a solid deal that would benefit both teams quite well

It doesn't make much sense to me.. Carter is a shoot first Center... Nash needs someone to feed him the puck...

Probably. Carter's best season came on a line with Hartnell and Lupul, neither of whom are noted playmaking types. Or maybe they expected Carter to carry the load on a line with guys like Umberger and Huselius and provide good secondary scoring.
