He's had some rough patches this season with his defensive zone coverages, but he's definitely an asset on the penalty kill. He's always working his tail off, and somehow finds ways to create scoring chances too.

I'd say he's above-average with the potential to become a Selke type player down the road.

- LordStanley88

I don't see Giroux as having Selke potential. His effort is never in question. But he needs to improve defensively. He's a solid PKer.

Datsyuk is the still the best IMO. Toews is a close second.

Koivu was worthy of the Selke before his injury though.

- LordStanley88

Toews is definitely on that level. Can't be much more of a complete player than him.

I'm talking about the off-season to replace Pronger long-term.

At the deadline, I'd like to see us get a Allen, Gill, or Sutton.

- LordStanley88

I still don't think we need Pronger 2.0. We need a balanced D corp and our goalie to play to his abilities. Keep the kids until they cost too much. That's not next year.

If Bryzgalov stops allowing a soft goal per game, it will make the defense core look a lot better.

I think I'd be foolish to pass on the opportunity to get a player of Weber's calibre.

Maybe. Can never go wrong with giving the Selke to Datsyuk, and the Norris to Lidstrom. Those guys are the reason why the Wings have been dominant for the last decade without having a great goaltender.

Who has more trade value:

Voracek or JVR or Scheen

Who would you prefer to trade if you had to give up one in a trade (you have to!!!)

- coffee junkie

i would say jvr. he's a former #2 overall pick, has size speed and stength, the concussion is a big minus, but schenn had one too. jvr probably has the most upside, while jv is the best player today. schenn is similar to mike richards who is a great player, schenn however doesn't have the party boy image. all 3 have great selling points and were top 7 picks (schenn went 5th and jv went 7th(maybe 8th)). it would be hard to part with any of them, but if shea weber or ryan suter was coming back i could part with 1 or 2 of them +.

weber would not be pronger 2.0 as far as his flyers career. he would be pronger in his prime 2.0 (probably what you mean anyway). but to me if you can get a shea weber and not gut your entire team/farmclub it would be wise to pursue such a player. i just hope homer has an upper limit to acquire him, after he is only one player and is just as susceptible to injury as any other player, if not more so due to playing more minutes and (in lavy's system) blocking more shots...

Sergei Federov won 2 Selke's, but yeah I understand what you are saying. A good amount of the time the player who wins the Selke is a shutdown forward who isn't a big scorer, Datsyuk is equally good on both sides of the puck which is scary.

Keep saying these names to yourself over and over again.

Claude Giroux, James van Reimsdyk, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier.

Our future couldn't be more bright and many are looking to trade 50 percent of this (JvR and Schenn). Add in such names as Matt Read, Wayne Simmonds, Jake Voracek, Sergei Bobrovsky and Erik Gustafsson and we're in even better shape.

Just feeding the lazy Russian stereotype.

Datsyuk owns when it comes to the Selke and Byng.

Bobo may be the wildcard in that group depending on who's asking and what's offered. Especially after Breezy gets his game face back.

That's understandable. Giroux is special. I feel like I'm going to burst into flames just mentioning his name and the word trade in the same sentence.
