It is a damn good offer. But is it the best offer? That's the question. If I'm Nashville, one of Giroux or Couturier has to be included. And I'd probably start by asking for both.
- MJL

Giroux has just as much value as Weber, if not more. I wouldn't trade him for anybody in the league not named Pavel Datsyuk.

Right, but they would probably get less for him during the season than at the draft IMO.

And if Suter leaves, then why not just unload him at the draft? That's ultimately what I think will happen. Of course, that doesn't mean that the Flyers will get him.

- LordStanley88

I agree at the draft. But I'm talking about during the Season, for Weber. If Suter chooses not to resign, and wants to test Free Agency, then I think they will move his rights at the Draft.

Who has more trade value:

Voracek or JVR or Scheen

Who would you prefer to trade if you had to give up one in a trade (you have to!!!)

- coffee junkie

Voracek he's a (frank)ing stud

if i had to trade one it's JVR

The Flyers are in a great position though. They have the offensive depth to be able to handle the loss of Schenn and JVR. Most of the 29 other teams in the league could not.
- LordStanley88

They have some depth at forward, but right now with Briere and JVR still being out indefinitely that depth is somewhat compromised. I'm pretty sure Nashville would have to have Giroux, or Couturier in any type of package for Weber.

I think Giroux straight up for Weber would be a good offer, one that I wouldn't do for a few reasons.

1. Giroux is 2.5 years younger
2. He's signed to a friendly deal

I wouldn't trade a 24 year old Claude Giroux for a 33 year old Pavel Datsyuk.

In my view, as players they are pretty equal. One is, hopefully a Hart Trophy level player. The other has been a Norris Trophy finalist. What position do you value more? Depends on the team of course and what the needs are. But it's not a stretch. I personally would not trade Giroux for Datsyuk.

If the Flyers traded Giroux, I'd jump off a bridge. Let's not even go there.

I guess if you factor in age, then no. But he's the only player in the league better than Claude right now IMO. Perhaps Malkin as well, but it's pretty damn close.

This is not counting Sid for obvious reasons.

If they were the same age and had the same contract I would consider it.

Toews, is certainly on Giroux's level. And probably is a better all around player.

He's definitely on his level. Not 100% sure who I'd rather have though. Probably Giroux, but I'm biased.

Laviolette has said on record that he wouldn't deal him for any player in the NHL.

Counter with Schenn, JVR, and a #1.
- LordStanley88

I don't see why the Flyers need to replace Pronger 100% right now. I think the D is fine for this season. Add a Gill or Grossman and let's role. I think the D men signing this week made Gills price a 2nd instead of a 3rd. But that will get us through. Now next year and going forward with Timmonen? Let's let things shake out over summer before we trade the farm.

I agree with you. I think Datsyuk is still the best two way center in the NHL. Giroux is knocking on the door though.

That's understandable. Giroux is special. I feel like I'm going to burst into flames just mentioning his name and the word trade in the same sentence.

I'm talking about the off-season to replace Pronger long-term.

At the deadline, I'd like to see us get a Allen, Gill, or Sutton.

Giroux unfortunately is average defensively. I would put Toews as the best two way Center in the NHL

I agree. For the past number of years Datsyuk and/or Zetterberg have been Selke nominees. Should Giroux be considered as such thing year?

He's had some rough patches this season with his defensive zone coverages, but he's definitely an asset on the penalty kill. He's always working his tail off, and somehow finds ways to create scoring chances too.

I'd say he's above-average with the potential to become a Selke type player down the road.

When Toews wins 3 Selke's in a row, I will put him ahead of Datsyuk.

Datsyuk is the still the best IMO. Toews is a close second.

Koivu was worthy of the Selke before his injury though.
