Sounds far too familiar, but we'll see what he brings here. But I must admit this is kind of discouraging, although Cammalleri was that and then some...

I'm happy with this trade.
1: We got rid of a big cancer in the locker room in Cammalleri.
2: We got rid of some cap space.
3: The team got bigger.
4: we got a second draft choice.
Sure, Cammalleri has a lot more skills, but he wasn't doing crap on this small team. Time to re-built with prospects and bigger players.
Also: We lost again tonight Getting closer to that 1st overall everyday.

One inconsistent forward for another. The trade off boiling down to immediate cap space vs term

Pretty much, I got me some tickets for what I believe is his debut Sunday against the Rangers... Hopefully he shows up more often than not. Though I do like this trade, I get the impression that Gauthier is one to jump at the first offer, doesn't look into to things as in depth as he probably should... But what do I know?
I have my doubts about the effectiveness of a Brent Sutter pep talk, or any Sutter for that matter, their every sentence sounds like the dying words of someone in a vegetative state.

Cap space, and an upgrade from a 5th rounder to a 2nd?

So....
The Habs get a guy who's scored 27 goals twice in the last 2 seasons, who's currently on pace for 26 goals, who hits and isn't afraid to go in the corners and in front of the net + a 2nd round pick for half the money Cammalleri was making?
But yeah, Bourque is inconsistent. Unlike Cammalleri...

Bourque fills a team need more than Cammalleri does, for less money.
At least we still have our first round pick, for now........

Don't get me wrong, Bourque is not the guy who will make the habs a much better team or a cup (playoffs?) contender.
But (frank), at least they got rid of one of the overpaid, small, underachieving forwards they had in the top 6 and replaced him with a big forward who scores 25+ goals per season AND a 2nd round pick.
Isn't that exactly what we were asking for in the first place?

I'd be willing to bet that the deal went down after the Blue Jackets announced that Umberger was out with a concussion. Lots of people were saying that Columbus were in talks with the habs too.
We lose this deal talent wise, no question, but like you say, cap space AND a second round pick?
I like it.
Playoffs are out of the question this year anyway.
PG did all right with this one.
EDIT: He should still be fired for taking this long to realize that this team is too small. - Ultimate Cyberhabs
The signing of Cole suggests otherwise. This was simply the first time he said it publicly because he needed some kind of saving words in a trade where the Habs lost talent-wise. I'm a fan of this trade more for the space and the pick but let's get real. This is the beginning of a mini-fire-sale in my opinion. It's too early for Gauthier to admit as much so he finally came out with the size thing just so he could say that he hasn't quit on this season. (Which is a rather stupid statement in my opinion but that's pretty irrelevant really)

The problem with Bourque actually is that he is also a disinterested, distracted player as well. The thing is, he has little talent compared to Cammy. Have you watched Bourque play? Great one game and garbage for the next 5. - Habsolute009

Getting an additional 3 million in cap space, and a 2nd round pick for a bigger guy who can produce just as much (or as little depending how you look at it) as the guy who was making twice his salary is a pretty good deal no matter how you look at it.
Oh, and don't talk about what Cammalleri can do in the playoffs. Both Montreal and Calgary aren't gonna make the playoffs anyway.
