Gainey was still the boss at the time... not sure Gauthier "wanted" a smurfs team... That .. we will never know - WaterBoy
All I know is he seemed to choose to allow the D to be soft. I look at how he built the D and it seems evident. Gainey deserves some blame, but he left Gauthier with a playoff team.

Give him 2 games, he could use a break anyway. Then he can have the surgery that removes your head from your ass. - pete26
I'm not going to defend PK's play, but I think it's stupid to put a 22 year old 2nd year d-man in a position of needing to be your #1 D-man. Much like Price early on I think this season helps him in the long run. The idea of trading him, not saying you said this, is crazy.
almost the same hit staios put on talbot vs isles last night... the isles fans booed talbot while he was woozy on his hands and knees. - Don'tForgetTocchet
that would be valuable info if anyone gave to pops about talbot.
I don't like Gauthier, but I'm not going to rip him for this deal. It seems to be a change of direction for him. - habby
Im not sure I hate him...
The GM actually made moves this year.... you know .. the same Habs team that was just so fawkin lame when it came to player movement and changing things here and there... well that same team this year is not like the previous 5-8 years team I;ve been following.
Yes they suck on the ice... but the GM didnt wait till next summer to pull the trigger on minor deals to give us minor hopes...
The GM acted when the coach lost the room ( or needed to be fired for many other reasons )
The GM acted when he lost his star Dmen for the rest of the season.. like the move or not.. he went out and got a PP specialist... I personally dont dislike the move.. and think Kaberlol cant offer much if the team he plays for cant do much.
He took decision like the Halak/Price decision that requiered big balls... We all loook now with hindsight and believe that this was a good trade after all... so maybe just maybe .. the trades and moves we dont like today form PG... might end up being decent moves ... maybe not the best moves... but "decent".
Do I like PG?.. meh... But to be honest... he's ( right now ) the best since... since... Peanut ?

Agreed, I like the fact that Gauthier seems to be more active than Gainey, I'm just not sure his judgment is as good.
