President Barack Obama is poised to match Franklin Roosevelt's record of being sworn in as the nation's leader four times.
While FDR served four terms, Obama is getting double swearing-in ceremonies for each of his two terms.
He's planning a private oath at the White House on Jan. 20, when the Constitution requires that his second term begin. But since presidential inaugurations are not traditionally on Sundays, his public swearing-in is scheduled Jan. 21.
In 2009, Obama had a do-over of his oath the day after Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts accidentally mixed up the words in the public ceremony.

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE TRAGEDY IN NEWTOWN, CONNECTICUT

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on December 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, December 18, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this fourteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
Buybacks are widely seen as being akin to dividends, in that they are another way of returning cash to shareholders. The buybacks, then, might be an indication that Mr. Buffett isn’t exactly brimming with excitement over today’s stock market.
For another, the share buyback wasn’t handled in the typical way, with a company buying back its own shares on the open market. Berkshire Hathaway bought 9,200 shares, at $131,000 each, from the estate of an unnamed long-time shareholder.
According to Reuters blogger Felix Salmon, that sounds like code for a friend of Mr. Buffett’s – and the timing, coming less than a month before capital gains taxes are likely to go up and just a day after Mr. Buffett said he supported higher estate taxes on the wealthy, also looks odd.

Frank Vascellaro: Minnesota’s known as the state of hockey, and we’re under the NHL lockout right now. Would you be willing to intervene in that lockout?
President Obama: You know, look. I’ve got to say, because we’ve had an NBA lockout, we’ve had an NFL lockout during the course of my presidency, the president of the United States shouldn’t have to get involved in a sports lockout. My message to owners and to players is, you guys make a lot of money and you make a lot of money on the backs of fans, so do right by your fans. You can figure out how to spread out a bunch of revenue that you’re bringing in, but do right by the people who support you. And I shouldn’t have to be involved in a dispute between really wealthy players and even wealthier owners. They should be able to settle this themselves. And remember who it is that’s putting all that money in their pockets.
Bill Ayers, former domestic terrorist-turned university professor, reemerged earlier this month to explain how the Progressive Left’s access to schools and neighborhoods will help them shape the future of America. Speaking at a New York University “Change the Stakes” meeting on Dec. 4, he said the Progressive Left must utilize the existing “movements on the ground.”
