sedin is the king of defensive play! datsyuk should never be considered a two way player again! Sedin is almost 3 times the defensive player datsyuk is! He has almost 3 times higher +/-!

don't want to go there? What's wrong?

Sorry I had just explained it in the previous post. Poile needed to do a dump to make space for Fisher (Lombardi) and to open a space for Blum (Franson). He also had to cover off the salary increase for Weber and a big one coming next year for Suter

So, he dumped an $800K player to make salary room?

I have never said anything bad about the deal. My comment has been more about the fan reaction who think Nashville did a bad deal and the Leafs significantly improved as a team. Overall I think Nashville has done what they had to do in adding Fisher promoting Blum and making space for the Weber contract. The Leafs have added depth by bringing in more players similar to what is already on their roster. I don't think any of that is controversial.

How is replacing Lebda with Franson adding a similar player?

The funny part is, Franson put up more points last year on D than all but 4 Sens FORWARDS.... He's a better offensive player than most of the Sens FORWARDS. LOL. Their roster is so completely devoid of any talent, Franson would be a top 6 FORWARD on the Sens.

If somehow the Sens could subtract all the junk from their roster, and get down to a roster of 2 players, they would win too, of course. That can only make them better.

No. But when people start trading personal insults the quality of the hockey talk goes down. I really enjoy when you and Prock for example debate hockey. But, when you start doing the personal insults it is not worth reading. Actually, neither of you are nearly as bad as some of the people that post here and for the most part it does not bother me. It does bother me when the guys who have good hockey commentary lose their ideas in personal slagging.

When prock is cordial to me, I am to him. When he mocks me, I'll mock him back. I admit he's a knowledgeable hockey fan, but if he serves insults, he'll get them back from me.

But as far as Political Correctness goes, I live without limits on my freedom of speech. I will NOT preemptively censor myself in the belief that I might offend someone, with my opinion.

There is NO "right" to not be offended.

Franson was actually 22nd in the NHl in even strength points by D-Men. The guy has a great shot and the potential to score more.

To say the Leafs didn't get better be replacing him with Lebda-Who's NHL career is essentially over is laughable.

NO, it had more to do with Lombardi's contract not being insured. that's the only reason Nashville did this trade.

Nashville arguably has had the worst off season of any NHL team.

You want to believe the trade somehow wasn't good for the Leafs just to be negative.

You really want to believe Franson was a guy Nashville didn't want, and Lombardi's contract not being insured wasn't THE reason for the trade.

To make it worse, Nashville had to insult Weber to sign him for a year. The guy is gone next summer. They cou'ldn't even sign him long term.

Disaster of a summer for the Preds.

First of all let's see where Franson fits into the roster. He is going to be in the 2nd or 3rd pairing. Let's not make the mistake of overhyping him before he has even skated a shift. He has played behind one of the best defensive pairs in the NHL that logs upwards of 30 minutes a game. We have no idea what his ceiling is.

Oh yeah? Do you really live without limits on your freedom of "speech"?

You might want to do some research on that.

Who's hyping him? Saying he's far, far better than a guy who's not good enough to be in the NHL is not overhyping him.

The Leafs are better for this trade, Nashvile certainly is not.

Nashvile could have used BOTH Fisher and Lombardi/ Fisher did not make Lombardi expendable at all. They have a mediocre offense as it is.

But, of course, the Sens wouldn't want him, because that would make their top line D too good.... Or, I guess, their top 6 forward group better, if they decided to play him there.

You talk about him being a depth player on the Leafs... But not only would he be top line on the Sens as a Dman, but he'd make their top 6 as a FORWARD. What does that say for the Sens roster?

I think my objection was not to the trade but to the fans who wanted to make it something other than what it was. Nashville did what they wanted. The Leafs did what they wanted. They had entirely different goals. I have said that the Leafs have added more depth, what is wrong with that? That is what they wanted to do. Nashville needed to create $ space (dump salary) and make room for Blum. It is a good hockey deal. My point is do not make it more than it is.

If Nashville signed Weber long-term I'd agree. But they're about to lose their franchise D-man.

Honestly. there's no positives to this summer for Nashville.

If they really wanted to make room for Blum, they could have moved a more expensive, less important D-Man than Franson, but they didn't. Why? Because Burke insisted on winning the trade quality-wise if he was taking Lombardi's non-insured salary off their hands.
