i just read that at some point in the not too distant past marvel killed peter parker?

marvel can suck my balls, stan lee can suck my balls, comics can suck my balls, and you guys can suck my balls.

You're wrong. They didn't kill Pete from the Marvel Universe you grew up with and who is still alive and sort-of-well in the Amazing Spider-Man.

They killed Pete from the Ultimate Universe which was supposed to be a darker marvel imprint but really just sucked and they're bringing it to a close.

They killed him to bring it to a close, they're not bringing it to a close because they killed him. That answers your first question.

Meh hadn't heard that but every other Ultimate universe title is out of print. I don't buy marvel ultimates.
