My basement job is a 65" 4k Panasonic something or another. Looks pretty good. Have it hooked up to a onkyo or something like that surround sound. Built a false wall a foot out and sunk the TV into it so it's flush with the wall turned out deheheheecent

I have 65inch in a corner, on a swivel arm thing. The room itself is like 100 sqft... and I have a surround sound system set up.

I don't go to the movies anymore.

I am headed to Florida in a couple of weeks but coming back for all of December and January. So, I can also buy on Black Friday if I get a good price.

Right now I am looking to decide on best size and model.

Opinion? Insights?

- spatso

I am looking at picking up a 65" 4k smart lg or samsung led from costco.

Seen them discounted for 900. I am waiting for black friday. I want to spend 800 or less.

Careful though. All the big black Richard porn mrs. Spatso likes to watch will really make your modest package seem inadequate on that size tv.

Thanks. The threads on Sony and Samsung are helpful.

I hope to figure out which ones I would buy and order the best offer on or around Black Friday.

I am pretty well settled on the 75" but there are huge differences in price and quality.

Watch programs like Outlander on Netflix. Amazing video and sound. Then I watch current season with commercials (ugh).

"
The 65" Samsung MU6300 is $1,397 (Costco), $1,399 (Best Buy) and $1,397 (Amazon). The exact same TV at Walmart is $1,898.

I think it will be close to your price on Black Friday at one of those outlets.

Serious question.

I have a modest media room. Watch lots of sports. Mrs. Spatso and I watch movies.

Great sound system. 8 year old 60" LG Plasma tv.

I want to replace TV.

Best Buy has a high end 65" Sony 900e for $2,500. The Sony 75" in the same model is on sale for $4400.

This is going to be Xmas gift to each other.

The Samsung MU 8000 is in same price range at both sizes.

I am facing a similar situation, even down to the age of the TV and a new TV being in lieu of either Christmas or Anniversary gifts and our TV is a 58" Plasma.

One of your biggest considerations should be the source material. I watch almost all my TV on Kodi. Most of the TV shows are not in high def. My current TV handles this pretty well and the picture still looks good. I have heard of TV's not handling a lower def signal well?

If you can, try to view a regular DVD on the TV, hopefully not upscaled. This may not be easy to do, but would give you a good idea of its performance if you stream a lot of TV. Most Kodi movies are in high def.

There is still very little in 4K but it is growing.

If you watch a lot of sports, Plasma is better than LED (LCD) hands down. Because plasma isn't available, the next comparison would be OLED > LED (LCD). The problem of course is that OLED is so freaking expensive still. 4,000 for a 65" LG. It is supposed to be the best on the market though

If you don't want to cough up that kind of cash, then I would stay in a lower end 4K and learn to live with the motion problems with sports. In truth, they have improved a lot over the years so most TV's today will be able to handle it.

65" should be a good size for 10-16' viewing distance.

What I wouldn't do is go "in-between" and spend 2500-3000 for an LED, or spend more to go up to 75".

So...

Either spend and get the OLED, or go lower, check out Costco even, and get a Samsung, LG, Sony or even Visio around 1400-1500 price range for 65"

Get a vizio, rca, or haier 4K screen with no smart features. Can get a 65 inch for under 1K. Buy a $100 chrome cast.

Not sure why you need a tv though, it’s not like you know what’s going on anyways.

- Feeling Glucky?

Yeah similar idea as me.

If you aren't getting an OLED, then stay on the lower end.

Nobody needs Smart TV's. Get a 75.00 Android box.

a 75" CRT would collapse in on itself turning into a blackhole that devours the universe. Then we would need another Big Bang ( ) to start the universe again and we would have to repeat the whole damn 12 year entirety of history.

Those are what I would be looking at.

Get an android box and run Showbox or Kodi.

All true, especially the part about the great pics off the plasma. The picture is still as sharp as when we got it 8 years ago. The plan was to move the plasma upstairs and put a new 75" in the media room. Maybe we should leave the plasma in the media room and just get a 65" samsung (mu 6300) for upstairs ($1,397 at Costco)

We use Netflix a lot and I have the NHL hockey package (good for home and Florida).

Most of the Sony tv's are android ready. Would you still need Showbox or Kodi to gain access to the additional shows and movies your accessing? (OK just read up on it, interesting).

Does it give you access to TSN broadcasts and does the blackout rules apply?

I bought a 50" 4K LG last year for $599. The same price I paid for a Samsung 32" LCD 720p 8 years prior.

The day before black Friday Costco's prices come out for the week, and best buy matches plus 10% of the difference of an advertised price. I don't think you can get a better deal than that.
