Very interesting that Liljergren looked as good or better than Chabot, despite the age difference, and familiarity with small ice.

It's only one game, but still.

There's also the truth that dmen often look better in front of good goaltenders.

- Feeling Glucky?

Bizarre. Chabot plays 23 minutes in all situations and ends up +3 on the night. Lilgegren gets limited play, ends up -1 and has no particularly memorable plays other than a figure skating routine around the perimeter. So, on the the basis of this you decide Lilgegren is as good as Chabot. Just like Jake Gardner is as good as Karlsson. I guess your just trying to tease me.

Yes, the Leafs' depth is such that they can dress more NHLers, even if it's less of their starting line-up.

The Sens team to start the season won't look much different than last night's.

- Feeling Glucky?

Karlsson
Turris
MAYBE another Dman (Borowiecki (sp?))

That is all the Sens were missing, of any significance unless I am forgetting some big name?

Defensemen also look better when they aren't facing anywhere near the full forward corps of the opponent.

List each team's missing IMPACT forwards (We could list missing 4th liners all day, but who cares)

Ottawa: Turris (I am probably missing someone here?)

Toronto Marner, Kadri, Bozak, JVR, Marleau, Komarov

Somehow Spazzo, and the Ottawa Sun concludes that the teams iced the same strength lineup relative to the expected NHL lineup.

Boucher is raving today about Ceci. Says he loved his game last night. Wants Ceci to grow his game to become top shut down guy.

You have four top prospects trying to break into line up.

Harpur
Englund
Jaros
Chabot

You have one opening available (Methot). And, a temporary situation with Karlsson. I believe Oduya is #7 on depth chart.

I think Chabot and Jaros start the season in Ottawa.

I believe that either Borowiecki or Wideman get moved when Karlsson returns.

- spatso

The Senators have clearly signaled that both Jaros and Chabot are Belleville bound ............ they make see time in the NHL as injury replacements, but that's all, for now.

If and when anyone in Belleville shows they belong in the NHL, like Ceci did when he was called up 3 or four seasons ago, then the Sens will make a deal to create a spot.

Chabot played well I thought.

Liljegren I didn't notice.

Why ruin your own argument with the last statement, that is just absurd.

I mean, your whole point is ridiculous to start because, PRE SEASON, but at least if you are going to go there, then Leafs fans really have no recourse.

Then you just go and make yourself look like an ass with the last statement that was literally said by no leafs fan, ever. You manage to somehow ignore what Leafs fans have said about Karlsson in this very thread.

Some of us understand hockey beyond reading the +/-.

Some of us actually watch the game all the way through. Lilljergen made some fantastic outlet passes, and good defensive plays. If you really want to use +/-, the fact that he was a -1, despite the goalies letting in 6 goals, says a lot.

But maybe you're right, ice time may have been a factor that helped Lilljergren look better than Chabot all night.

I don't believe Ottawa is afraid of moving these guys up more quickly.

Players decide outcomes. Chabot played a lot more minutes than any other Dman. If he get big minutes throughout the preseason he starts in Ottawa.

Not true. Prock has regularly said Karlsson would not likely be a top 4 Dman if he were in the Leaf system

I have no idea whether he starts in Ottawa or not.

What I will say is you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a boatload of young Dmen who impressed in pre-season over the years.

You are doing what Leafs fans have done for years (and still do sometimes). You are anointing the kid as a saviour before his NHL career, or even his AHL career has started.

Good on him if he can step out of junior and be an effective NHLer, bypassing the AHL.

Karlsson showed fantastic offensive upside in his first year, but was a mess in his own end. It has taken him YEARS to become the best dman in hockey. I won't even entertain the idea that Chabot is the second coming of Karlsson yet. It is just way too soon. Just like I cringe when I hear people make the Liljegren comparison to Karlsson.

The league has never had, and never will have, very many players of Karlsson's calibre.

No really, he does! Honest!

Prock, did you say that?

Last year Chabot dominated at every level. He was named MVP of the WJC. Never achieved by a Dman before. He has done everything the team asked him to do. He played nearly 45 minutes in the gold medal game.

Nobody has said he is the second coming of Karlsson. Karlsson, on the other hand, has said Chabot is more advanced than he was at the same age. Chabot is a far better defensive and physical player than Karlsson was in his first few years.

Players have to win jobs. Chabot is against Jaros, Englund and Harpur fighting for that one open spot. If, as I said before, Chabot gets 23 minutes a game through the exhibition season, he stays in Ottawa.

Are you Garth?

What levels exactly did he "dominate"

NHL?, even the AHL?

No. He was a 19/20 year old in the Q.

Probably just a nasty bruise. Even if there is a small hand injury, it isn't really serious long term.

Hopefully nothing serious, but there are a lot of teeny bones there.
