Do you have a picture of the leafs Conference Championship banner? I can't find one.

While you're at it, how about a leafs Presidents Trophy Banner???

at least we didn't trade away our 1st for him!

Says a lot about Ryan that that's who you compare him to.

Spin as much as you want, but a player who can score more than 30 goals for every 82 games he plays is a great asset to have, or to to be used in a trade.

David Clarkson is now going to be nothing more than an anchor on the leafs roster, restricting their flexibility with their Cap, for the next six seasons.

A player who responds to criticism by disappearing, and can't maintain the production he had with stars when taken away from them, who's a UFA next year isn't what a rebuilding team needs to be trading 2 1sts and a 2nd for. Sorry.

Can't wait to see you talk about how useless a player was when Melnyk cheaps out and lets him walk.

Clarkson is having a bad season, no doubt- his worst so far. Maybe that has something to do with being set back at the beginning of the season. Its likely that he'll improve back to his career average next season, and his cap hit, year after year, will decrease in it's significance to our total cap space. Not as hard for a GM to work around as a cheap owner is.

If the "other" franchise" won them, they're still Ottawa's banners.

Who cares who has games in hand. The team with the lower pts% has to perform better over the final stretch, therefore that's the better bet. Don't care who has played how many games. It takes a lesser performance for the team with the higher pts% to clinch.
- prock

If I was a leaf fan, I would now be caring about Detroit, Washington and Columbus ALL who have a game or two in hand over the leafs.

The leafs have had the "lesser performance for a team with the higher P%" as you suggested, and they're actually nowhere near to clinching.

In fact the leafs and the Capitals no longer control their own futures, they need help (other teams need to choke too) to get into the playoffs.

The Red Wings and Blue Jackets are still in control of their own destiny.

Maybe the Leafs should get one for last season's beauty.

Who controls the Sens destiny?

oh that's right. They're gone. A garbage, bush team, no playoffs, no first round pick, no hope.

Neither the leafs or Senators are mathematically eliminated.

Less than two weeks ago the leafs had an 89.7% chance of making the playoffs, and now they are down to 24.6%

What a garbage, crap team that couldn't even play .500 hockey since the Olympic break, with just 22 or 23 games left in the season to lock down a playoff spot.

I guess they can only make the playoffs in the rare 48 game seasons.

Oh, our first round pick was traded for a player to help the team now, as the Senators are already well stocked with prospects.

Oh, and by the way, Bobby Ryan, despite being injured since mid November leads the Senators in goals.

At least the Senators won a series last year.

And it was the leafs that suffered the BIGGEST choke in the playoffs last year, blowing the biggest third period lead, in a game seven, in Stanley Cup History.

When was the last time the leafs won a playoff series??

You better pray hard for the leafs to win 7 of their remaining games, as that, plus a couple of other teams choking, is what it's going to take for them to have a chance at making the playoffs.

Who was it that said having games in hand didn't matter????

They're NOT my percentages, they are from http://www.sportsclubstat...ern/Atlantic/Toronto.html

The Senators were "toast" after losing the two Alberta road games............as for the leafs the bread is in the toaster .........................

The magic numbers for the Redwings, Blue Jackets and Capitals to eliminate the leafs are all the same, 16.

Any combination points gained by each of these teams (individually), combined with points lost by the leafs, will eliminate the leafs from catching them.

Oh, and all these teams have a game or two in hand on the leafs.

Who was it that said having games in hand was not an advantage?

The next two games will be must wins for the leafs.........Friday in Philadelphia, with the Red Wings sitting in toronto that same night watching the game, waiting for the leafs to return to play them on Saturday night.

Back to back games......................I guess that compressed schedule to accommodate the Olympics isn't too friendly to the leafs after all. eh?

Are you for real? It is mathematically impossible for .500p% to catch the higher team (unless the lower team wins considerably more pts or the higher team losses considerably more) You cannot be this stupid.
- burn

Dopps is double counting games played when talking about point%... saying the Leafs aren't doing as well because while their point% is higher, they have more games played.

The argument is that since point % takes games played into consideration, bringing up games played is flawed.

- Feeling Glucky?

No, that's not what he's saying at all.

The team with games in hand can be at a disadvantage if their pts is lower than the other team, because it means they have to perform above their current level to pass them. Or they can be at an advantage if their pts % is higher, because it means they can perform lower than their current level and still potentially stay ahead.

You can argue they control their own destiny if you want. The flipaide of that argument is that if they're behind in pts% the other team has already banked points and put the pressure on them to win. Just opinion.

All we can really say for certain is that the team with the higher pts % has performed better to date, and put themselves in a better situation. No matter how many games either has played.

yes. a .500 team playing .500 hockey will not catch a .600 team playing .600 hockey, regardless of games played.

Ah, there you go putting words in my mouth again. Trying to save face??

All along I've been saying the team with games in hand have the advantage of knowing they can make up points on the team ahead of them, who have fewer games to play.

Who in their right mind ever came up with the concept that teams play at the exact same P% from the beginning of the season to the end??

But no one wanted to entertain the simple concept that I was trying to explain. Let me ask you this, how many times, in the past few weeks, have you read articles covering the leafs and the playoff races, or commentators on TV in the conference, have you seen or heard the columnist / pundits refer to "games in hand"?

The leafs are now behind in a race that they were ahead, because they could NOT maintain their P% while ahead, and the teams that have passed them increased their P% because they had more games to play, and had something to shoot for.

Change the argument to make yourself look good if you must.

In the end, you, and everyone else, knows you were wrong, And that you'll likely be wrong about the next thing you try to argue. And the one after that.

Damn, you hate it when I'm right

Explain this to me then, smart guy. What if the leafs had ten games left to play, and the Wing and Jackets each had 8 games left to play, would the leafs have a better shot at getting into the playoffs than they do now, and would those two extra games left matter???
