Trading Chabot, at this point, would be the stupidest thing that could happen, and evoke a fan revolt.

The Senators have systematically praised Chabot for all his junior success, and talked about his "bright future" with the Sens. They have zero intentions of trading him and doubt very much another team would make an "offer they could not refuse".

He's only played 07:06 minutes in the NHL, and don't have a clear picture as to how he will progress as a pro, so why in the heck would they give up on him now?

With the signing of Oduya, the Senators now have 7 D men on NHL (one way) contracts, plus a couple more in the system that have more NHL experience than does Chabot............. so it's pretty much a given that he's destined to start the Season in Belleville, unless he just blows everyone away in training camp and "wins" a roster spot ........... which I don't see happening.

From the little I've seen Chabot play, he's a big fish in a small pond (junior) and is much faster and much more skilled than 80-90% of the opposition he played against, so he tended to wander a lot, and has the ability to get back in position, to cover up any potential mistakes .......... he will not be able to do this at the NHL level ........... yet.

He needs to learn the "pro game" and his defensive responsibilities under Boucher's system............. and that is what the AHL is for, and not the third pairing on the Sens roster, playing 7 to 8 minutes a night, and having a high probability of making a costly mistake, and getting benched, and if it happens enough times, losing his confidence, and getting sent down to the AHL.

The Senators now have a ton of depth at the Left D position, and I see that as part of the plan to develop Chabot in the AHL, for as long as it takes.

I am not a fan of the idea of trading Chabot. I agreed when it was rumoured that Dorion would not include him in any talks relating to Drouin. But, I also know his name came up with Colorado. No way they include him in any deal for either Duchene or Landeskog. But, there is a whisper (Hockey News) that Salic might move MacKinnon. We should be interested.

It's been reported by literally everybody that Sakic isn't and wouldn't even entertain trading MacKinnon, Rantanen, or Jost. Those are the guys they're gonna build around.

Anyone who reports otherwise is looking for hits.

Look at the best D prospects in recent years, what would they have fetched in a trade before they were able to show anything in the NHL.

You won't get any of those 3 players for Chabot. You would be adding.

typical. naive sens fans get excited about trading pennies on the dollar for mackinnon.

reality hasn't set in that they already acquired the only nate they are getting.

That (frank)s the following up then

pointing out the facts ........... it's not that big of a commitment, and depending on the terms, he could be a trade deadline candidate if the Sens are not in a playoff position.

was commenting well before details were announced.

But, it is a "modified" NTC (10 team no trade list) ...... so maybe not so "fucked up" as you may think

That is fundamentally inadequate evaluation.

Sergachev does not command the respect that Chabot gets in any objective evaluation. Sergachev was dealt one for one for Drouin. Drouin is a more attractive asset than either Duchene or Landeskog.

Players are evaluated by what they can do on a big stage when it matters.

Not many Dmen rise to the top of the WJC. Chabot was named MVP of the tournament and best Dman. He is a fine talent.

I'd imagine there'll be a line up of the other 20 NHL teams.

Why the modified NTC?

Can you please stop talking about a possible trade of Chabot ...... as it's not going to happen.

Chabot is a great prospect, who has not shown anything at the NHL level ...... so let him play his way onto the Sens roster, and let's just see how he does then.

in case you had not noticed, come trade deadline day, that a lot of teams make trades to add depth to their defensive corps ....... so he'll be a "rental" for one of those teams, if the Sens decide to trade him at that time.

Mark Streit was acquired by the Pens at the trade deadline this year, and the Columbus Blue Jackets acquired veteran defenseman Kyle Quincey, so trades of veteran D men do happen on TDD.

Chabot is a better prospect than Sergachev. He would bring a very substantial return.

The most recent pairing I saw floated has Chabot matched with Phaneuf... a good option.

It leaves Borowiecki, Wideman and Harpur out of the line up. Jaros, Englund and Sieloff start in Belleville.

I would not consider dealing Chabot other than for the fact you already have Karlsson playing huge minutes. If, however, McKinnon is on the market (quietly) as reported by Hockey News, I would discuss the inclusion of Chabot in a deal.

Ranking prospects is a huge waste of time; I don't even like the chatter around McDavid vs. Matthews vs. whomever: can we let these kids play out their ELCs before we start deciding who's a first ballot HoFer?

MacKinnon is NOT on the market. I thought we already went over this? And even if he was it would cost the Sens a (frank) of a lot more than Chabot.

C'mon man......... let's use a little common sense.

Chabot is on a two way contract, for the next three seasons, and Ottawa already has SEVEN defense men signed to one way contracts for this coming season.

What logical reason would Boucher choose to sit Borowiecki and or Wideman, and let Chabot learn the NHL pro game, on the fly, in the NHL?

Let's think about your "suggestion" that Chabot would be matched with Phaneuf ........... Phaneuf is much more of a "shutdown" type of D man, and that's the role he played, and excelled at last year with Ceci ............. so is Chabot known as a "shutdown" type of D Man, or perhaps more of an "offensive" type of D man?

Why do think Chabot is going to waltz into the NHL, with 07:06 minutes total of pro experience, and displace regular NHL D men from the roster?

“He wanted to go to a team that had a chance to win,” Dorion said Monday. “I know for a fact that a team offered him more money and he chose to go to (Ottawa) just for the reason that he felt it was a better fit and they have a better chance to win.”

-TSN

On Oduya signing with Ottawa. No reason to believe that the team he said "no" to was the Leafs. But, we know that Condon did say "no" to the Leafs. Leafs go forward with huge questions in nets and on the blueline.
