That has to be location material.

Chabot vs Werenski rookie seasons will look very different IMO

- walshyleafsfan

How do you think it would be met if you or I suggested that Liljegren will have an impact in his rookie season reminiscent of Werenski's?

“I’m not comparing them, but, if Zach Werenski stepped into a pretty good team in Columbus, I think Thomas Chabot can step into our team.”

Sounds a lot like he just thinks Ottawa is a much easier team to make.

Can't say i disagree.

I think Chabot starts as a 5/6 pairing. I Think he gets spot time with karlsson.

I think his playing time is measured over the first half of the season and expanded in the second half.

I am still open to the idea that Chabot gets traded for a significant top 3 skater. Better then Drouin.

We have had this before where someone uses really inappropriate language. It does not bother me if you want to call me names. It says more about you than me. However, it does not justify your using insensitive, demeaning references.

I HOPE that the Sens play Chabot with Karlsson. They'd be the most defensively inept pairing ever. Other teams best players (hell, even the lesser players) would be salivating at the opportunity to lineup against them.

How would Chabot get a better player in return than Drouin, when Sergachev is better than Chabot?

Not so. At least in the opinion of Tampa. Ottawa tried to do the deal but would not consider Chabot.

Oh?

I doubt it completely but if so, then Tampa lucked out greatly. I mean, I'd gladly take Chabot if I was them but I'd also want their 1st round pick. Especially since it'll more than likely be a lottery pick.

Yes. THat was the talk right from the beginning. Ottawa wanted in on Drouin. Tampa wanted Chabot.

From the Hockey News. The future looks bright in Ottawa thanks to newly-crowned best defenseman in all of junior hockey: Thomas Chabot. And he appears to be ready for the NHL.

The Ottawa Senators made a stunning run in the post-season, coming within a single goal of the Stanley Cup final. And while there is much to celebrate surrounding the greatness of Erik Karlsson, the resiliency of Craig Anderson and Clarke MacArthur, and the tactical forcefulness of coach Guy Boucher, it’s worth noting that the future looks pretty bright in Ottawa, too.
From two-way center Colin White to Memorial Cup champion Logan Brown, the Sens have some nice pieces up front. On the back end, they have the newly-crowned best defenseman in all of junior: Thomas Chabot.
The Saint John Sea Dogs stalwart fell in his final junior game to the Memorial Cup runners-up from Erie, but along the way he further cemented his status as a minute-munching game-changer on the back end. Even if he can’t reach the lofty heights of Ottawa’s current ace defenseman, Chabot stands to be an impact blueliner who has impressed opponents with his excellence.

So many really strong young Dmen. Oduya is still a strong skater and will get some minutes paired with Karlsson. More likely to skate as 6th

One or two young guys will be traded for a forward. Chabot is not available unless it involves a young top 3 skater.

- spatso

Trading Chabot, at this point, would be the stupidest thing that could happen, and evoke a fan revolt.

The Senators have systematically praised Chabot for all his junior success, and talked about his "bright future" with the Sens. They have zero intentions of trading him and doubt very much another team would make an "offer they could not refuse".

He's only played 07:06 minutes in the NHL, and don't have a clear picture as to how he will progress as a pro, so why in the heck would they give up on him now?

With the signing of Oduya, the Senators now have 7 D men on NHL (one way) contracts, plus a couple more in the system that have more NHL experience than does Chabot............. so it's pretty much a given that he's destined to start the Season in Belleville, unless he just blows everyone away in training camp and "wins" a roster spot ........... which I don't see happening.

From the little I've seen Chabot play, he's a big fish in a small pond (junior) and is much faster and much more skilled than 80-90% of the opposition he played against, so he tended to wander a lot, and has the ability to get back in position, to cover up any potential mistakes .......... he will not be able to do this at the NHL level ........... yet.

He needs to learn the "pro game" and his defensive responsibilities under Boucher's system............. and that is what the AHL is for, and not the third pairing on the Sens roster, playing 7 to 8 minutes a night, and having a high probability of making a costly mistake, and getting benched, and if it happens enough times, losing his confidence, and getting sent down to the AHL.

The Senators now have a ton of depth at the Left D position, and I see that as part of the plan to develop Chabot in the AHL, for as long as it takes.

He may end up being Werenski in year 1 and he may be Karlsson-like one day. The only reasonable expectation this year should be development.
