So you're saying Matthews was an okay pick but we should talk more about Calder winner Laine?

No Ottawa team has ever won a major pro sports championship, and no, the Stanley cup way back LONG before the Leafs last one didn't count as a major sport. Hell Ottawa doesn;t even have a team in any other major league sport. Some to think of it, they can't even support one team.

Never.

Nothing.

The true story of a city and a fan base not worth it.

Just because you don't want to recognize the teams that won the Stanley Cup, doesn't change the fact that teams representing Ottawa have their names engraved on the Stanley Cup, and are recorded in history as winners of the Stanley Cup .......... the World recognizes these Stanley Cup winners ............... and no one give a flying fox fart about your private definition of what constitutes a Stanley Cup winner.

You know if you jumble around the letters in "Ottawa Senators" you can spell "Over twenty years in a league and nothing to show for it other than a fan base so apathetic that they can't sell out a Conference Final home game because of the parking lot layout and the local CFL team".

I never noticed it before either. Pretty crazy.

Wait, so you post this right after listing the Sens Stanley Cups in the early 20th century when there wasn't even a NHL?

...and it was a different franchise.

So weak.

Right after he was bragging about Ottawa wins, like 40+ years BEFORE that, for the most part before there was an NHL, and it was even a different franchise.

Looks like the Methot and Phaneuf situations, the horrible Ryan and Smith contracts, the hilarious Burrows signing and that coveted 28th pick have them all rattled.

Wait until Karlsson leaves as a UFA

What a (frank)ing dummy.

List m's pre WW2 years as the heyday of the Sens. Then mocks the Leafs for winning it during the Beatles' heyday.

The leafs are the most financially successful team in the league.

They're more valuable than the 5 least rich teams in the league. They are worth an estimated 1.15 billion dollars or more, and are the only NHL team worth more than a billion.

BUT, the leafs have not won the Stanley Cup in over FIFTY years.

An organization which virtually sells out every game and has the financial power to make itself one of the most well equipped elite franchises in all of sports.

A team who has just has failed to achieve hockey’s ultimate goal for so long. In 2014 ESPN ranked them to be the worst franchise in North America of all of the major 4 sports leagues.

Viscious!

Insensitive?

Perhaps a little harsh for summer talk?

Remember this is the B team of the Leaf commentariat. If you scorch them too deeply they will run away and hide.

They take great delight in believing they are big and powerful. They become somewhat despondent when reminded that they have been inept and mostly redundant for more than 50 years.

If I remember correctly they got the lowest ranking ever as a sports franchise by ESPN because of their perststant ineptitude. Remarkably it is symbolically character shaping for many of the Leaf supporters posting on this thread. Even though they post differently they understand and share a premordial awareness of betrayal. For so many years, hopes have been raised only to be shattered by the reality of Leaf front office incompetence.

Is this new group a change from the Keystone Kops of the last 50 years? I think so. I hope so.

But we cannot forget. It is just a few years ago that we watched in horror as a Leaf team put on one of the most disgraceful performances ever as they collapsed against the Bruins in the third period. Kessel was blamed and run out of town. It was said by Leaf fans no team could ever win a Stanley Cup with Phil Kessel in their line up. Phil paid for his sins by being banished to a team that has won two Stanley Cups since his arrival. It is all so complex. Yet, if nothing changes, if losing repeats as a pattern, maybe, the curse of Harold Ballard is real.

I believe Leaf fans have a huge ineptitude complex. Individually they are smart, well studied hockey fans. But put them into a group and they turn into a pack of rabid dogs desperate for an an answer to their eternal suffering. Despite all their protestations to the opposite they still tremble in fear. They believe in the inevitability of failure, they support a culture of doubt. Despite all the positive signs from last year, somehow, Leaf fans still wonder if they are destined to collapse again. Serious consideration should be given to starting this season with an exorcism at center ice on opening night. Time to let go of all the feelings of bitterness and betrayal. Let the demons go. For far too long you have had to live with shame and ridicule. Now is the time to cast the demons out.
