I don't think the leafs rookies this past season suffered from having spent time in the AHL ....... and Ottawa has burned a couple of rookies already by not sending them down to the AHL for a long enough time to develop, or become "over-ripe" as PM likes to say on TGOR on this issue.

I think you mean Pierre Mcguire, I would be fine never hearing that guy again ever.
He is basically Donald Trump of the NHL

This is what he said about Sami Vatanen.. read it in a Trump voice

Buddy, you've demonstrated an ability to overrate prospects in the past ............... but have not learned that you're setting yourself up for the Trollonto fans here to point these mistakes out, at some point down the road.

Do you not remember when you claimed Shane Prince was the "steal of the 2011 draft"?

- D0PPELGANGER

Now why would you buy into a Leaf fan fabrication. I said Pageau was a steal in the 4th round. I still believe that. My favourite player after Karlsson. I did like the Prince pick but not nearly as much as Pageau.

But you did say Prince was the "Steal of the Draft", and it's just not me who remembers that statement

I'm sure it's still here somewhere, perhaps in this very thread, but I'm not going to look for it.

The point is you have shown proneness to to bit more overly optimistic on when Senators prospects are going to displace someone on the current roster.

So, who does White steal a job from? Do the Sens trade away that player?

History, old news.

This is the time for prospects and the draft.

And, of course, trophy awards and reflections on the amazing playoffs.

is this the List you are talking about?

TSN top prospects list
http://www.tsn.ca/live/ta...ating-in-the-nhl-1.677389

For the Leafs top 5 he has Neilson as the Leafs best Prospect and doesnt even list Dermott. At this point (and in feb) Dermott is the better prospect and closer to the NHL by all accounts

I also find it hard to believe Kapenen is not in the top 50 anywhere.

- senstroll

yeah, it's out to lunch. Kapanen as second best prospect? Not a chance. He's pretty easily a prospect with top 6 potential as a two way player. I'm not going to bother with the research but I'm willing to bet you can't find more than 5 players that are both younger than him, and have scored more in the AHL than him. That, on top of him being a very good two way player.

Now, he's not of the caliber of Matthews, Marner, and Nylander, mind you, more like Connor Brown or Colin White.

Nielsen and Dermott are 2nd and 3rd best Leaf prospects. They both project to second pairing dman, both with minimal (but not non-existant) first pairing potential.

No Leafs on the list. Also, when you look at the Leaf protection list for the expansion draft there is nothing there. Indication of just how thin Leaf talent is.
- spatso

You would trade the Leafs roster for Ottawa's in a heartbeat, if you had any working synapses.

Did you know Leafs had 3 of the 4 top scoring rookies last year? But that's not as prevalent as making a list.

- systemtool

Actual NHL achievement, at an elite level for a rookie is not as important as making a list.

... and I love cherry picky the list right after the Leafs just had the best rookie class in the history of the NHL if you adjust for scoring in today's game.

I can't wait until the defenseman from the Q encounters the NHL. Also, Harpur?! WTF, saw him many times in Guelph. He might have an NHL career but not an impactful one.

What are you basing this on? He has not played enough, at the NHL to demonstrate his ability to play defence at the NHL level.

Playing College hockey and the WJC is not the same as playing in the NHL ............. there is absolutely no reason to rush him into the NHL .......... plus who do you think he displaces from the Senator's lineup, if as you suggest he wins a regular spot?

- D0PPELGANGER

Is Chabot on the team this year, or the minors? I am hoping both Nielsen and Dermott spend another season in the minors.

There is a huge difference between a 17 yr. old winger, who will go undrafted, coming down your wing, and Alex Ovechkin about to wreck you into the boards.

I think it is critical to bring Dmen along slowly.

if you're a skilled guy like provorov or werenski it seems like you can get away with not playing a full year in the ahl. chabot would probably be fine in the nhl honestly

hard to predict with dmen. it's a roll of the dice more so than forwards.

the fact that they both excelled in the AHL is a good sign. it's one thing doing well in juniors. the step from junior to AHL or other pro hockey has a tendency to weed out a lot of dman that looked good. and then another large lot of them from AHL to NHL.

they both have second pairing potential no doubt. as I say first pairing unlikely but not out of the question.

don't worry, no summer talk here. I won't proclaim any of our kids in junior ready to jump in and save the team.

the main difference is i don't think either team expected to be a playoff team so they were ok with them making rookie mistakes. that the blue jackets were actually good was probably a surprise to everyone.

Probably worth noting that the only rookie Dman this year that was actually a difference maker was Werenski. Provorov was okay, but do you really think the Flyers would have suffered that much without him? I don't. Zaitsev played a tonne of minutes, but I don't think anyone would say he was a big difference maker. Third on the depth chart.

So, counting on a player to come in and chew up a few minutes is one thing. But being a boost to the team, is another thing altogether.

HIGHLY unlikely chabutt makes any difference for the senaturds this year. He'd probably be better off in the AHL. But the senaturds rush all their prospects, so he'll probably be thrown to the wolves, to save a few pennies on ELCs.

I said generally.

It took a couple of completely battered and bruised teams for the sens to do what they did.

Many people complained about Crosby winning the Conn Smythe. Overall, he was probably not much better than Malkin, but he was far and away better in the final, and came up clutch a few times. Setting up the round 3 winner (and skating circles around the senaturds in the 3rd period of that game, including karlson), I think he was the clear best player in the playoffs.

And he did that with a bruised noggin. He made karlson look like a fool, with a concussion.

Comments going around that Methot is a good player but he is far less of a player than people think when he is not paired with Karlsson. I thought the Sens should keep Methot and put Dzingle and other forwards on the non protected list (4+4+1).

We are hearing that Dorion is not even trying to negotiate any deal to keep Methot and encouraging LV to make their choice from who is available.

Curios.
