Since the senaturds came into the league:

Regular Season
Leafs (W/L/T/OT/PTS) 877 / 772 / 112 / 143 / 2009
Sens (W/L/T/OT/PTS) 866 / 788 / 115 / 135 / 1982

Playoffs
Leafs (G/W/L) 145 / 71 / 74
Sens (G/W/L) 151 / 72 / 79

It's a tie. both suck.

Well no............ it's not really fair to compare an expansion team, and it's first 7 to 10 seasons trying to get established, to an existing team.

The only fair comparison is when the leafs came over from the Western Conference and joined the Senators in the same division.

I think if you did a little research, the Senators measure up much better.

But if you insist on comparing the Senators expansion years to the leafs, then what does that say about the dismal state of the leafs if you have to lower the bar that far.

lol. selective sample. completely arbitrary.

you guys had top 5 pick after top 5 pick in those early years and made the 2009-2015 oilers look like a well run machine.

Bottom line, arguing who had the better past seasons is like arguing about what’s better to have: syphilis or gonorrhea.

All I know is the leafs STD has cleared up and the sens STD is spreading wildly.

I've always found that senatard fans use the expansion thing as a cop out a little too much.

The league expanded to San Jose the year before ottawa. It took San Jose 3 years to make the playoffs.

The same year as ottawa, they expanded to Tampa Bay. It took Tampa 4 years.

The year after ottawa, they expanded to Anaheim and Florida. It took Anaheim 4 years and Florida 3 years.

It took ottawa longer than every single one of those teams, 5 years, while they were sitting there collecting more consecutive top 3 draft picks than any other team in the history of the NHL.

Dismissing it all due to them being an expansion team is a little disingenous. They were a pathetic franchise back then too.

To be fair, Daigle and Phillips would set any team back a bit. Especially with Pronger being an option.

Daigle was the right picks but I can't believe people aren't talking about how much better Pronger is.

They actually have a long history of missing out on the best dman and ending up with the guy that'll never win you the big one. Pronger..... Choosing Redden over Chara.

I'm not saying Daigle wasn't the right pick. I just can't believe we are not talking about it. I mean Daigle may or may not have been the right pick. I'm just saying the Ontario media spun it the way they wanted. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.

Pronged = Mark Fayne

I just like to talk about drafts.

Excuses is all Sens fans ever have when talking about their team.

To be expected from fans that went from cheering for storied franchises to cheering for a team that has no cups, and no chance at one for at least another decade.

Good Lord.

The point you failed to make was that the Leafs fans are jealous of all the "success" of the Ottawa Franchise.

It was pointed out that since the Ottawa franchise was in the league, they have not accomplished much more than Toronto.

This was a perfectly appropriate counter-argument that effectively shot down yet another ill-advised, dumb, post from you.

You are rattled Dopps. You are no longer even able to follow the conversation. You need a break.

but they worked SOOOOO hard for that coveted 28th draft position.
- Aetherial

Yes, that is the point. If you achieve an elite result like the ECF you pay an elite price in the form of a low draft pick. Nobody wants to change our playoff run for a better pick.

In regard to giving up a 1st to keep Methot, I think I would be okay. It depends on who LV would choose on the follow up. If they took Ryan or MacArthur I would be entirely pleased with the outcome. If they took Claesson I would be less pleased.

I'm pretty sure it mean taking methot and trading him back to you for a first. there is no way they're going to take Ryan or MacArthur off your hands. you'd have to pony up some more assets for them to solve those problems for you.

Ottawa has 4 out of the 50 players on the TSN top prospects list.

Chabot is rated #3 overall and is the top ranked Dman.

Next year Ottawa adds a minimum of 3 rookies.

Both Chabot and Harpur will get minutes on D and Colin White should have top 6 minutes by the end of the season.

However, the draft is important. You do not want to go too many years giving up your top draft picks.

Could be. But, I think the deal was agreed on before the list was made up. So, if you look at what other teams appear to be doing MacArthur might be the most likely choice. I did not think of it until I saw a few mock drafts with MacArthur on it as the pick. I wondered, where is this coming from?

I think Colin White takes MacArthur's place in the rotation and if If MacArthur is about to retire (a story being floated) he is actually a pretty good cap pick for LV.

is this the List you are talking about?

For the Leafs top 5 he has Neilson as the Leafs best Prospect and doesnt even list Dermott. At this point (and in feb) Dermott is the better prospect and closer to the NHL by all accounts

I also find it hard to believe Kapenen is not in the top 50 anywhere.

No Leafs on the list. Also, when you look at the Leaf protection list for the expansion draft there is nothing there. Indication of just how thin Leaf talent is.

At this time of the year it is about the draft and prospects. Not unusual for us to talk about it, especially after the Sens had their fabulous run in the playoffs.

right because all the good talent is young and does not need to be protected.
Also they Leafs hosed a team on Dion so they dont have to protect him and expose someone decent

or smart management to not set themselves up for losing players for nothing. also the Leafs young stars don't need protection but neglecting that fact shows just how thin your troll is.
