Great question.

Rebuilding takes a few years. Teams learn to win by building a winning culture. Need to be careful not to push kids into having to win. Big difference in playing without pressure and playing to meet heavy expectations.

- spatso

You're jealousy is so ridiculous. You want the leafs to fail so badly.

Last year you said the leafs young players weren't going to make a difference, they were worse than the year before when they finished last. Now you're saying they're winning too quickly.

You're (frank)ed in the head

I don't think you can plot a trajectory to success like that. Toronto's rebuild isn't done, but they handled their young kids appropriately in my opinion. Some made the team out of the gate, others waited.

Here we go again. Let's ignore scoreboard and results.
- spatso

The results were that the Sens were the only team after 82 games to have more goals given up than scored to make the playoffs. Who is ignoring results?

Actually learning to win is different than winning. Washington Capitals are a prime example of a team that is loaded with talent at all the key positions but they have never learned how to win when the winning gets tough.

Some, including me, would say that the early years were too easy for their young players (Ovechkin primarily) and they never learned how much sacrifice was needed for true success. Lots of teams with great skill have missed living up to their full potential because they never learned how to win when it matters.

Boy did not mean to spook you so badly.

Reranking of Drafted NHL prospects is pretty common practice by most publications.

It is the way you assess prospect depth.

Sens have 4 top prospects. Leafs 0. Deal with it.

Sorry it is what it is.

Ottawa has a really strong prospect pool.

That is a reality.

The Leafs don't have much talent left in their prospect pool as they have moved prospects quickly into their system. We will see if Leafs pay a price for their lack of patience.

I was a huge supporter of dealing Spezza and I think this year's run to the ECF is a direct result of making that move. Ottawa had to become a better defensive team and they had to be built around Karlsson and that was not going to happen as long as Spezza remained as the Captain. I liked Spezza as a person, he was great in the community but he was never the captain and leader that Karlsson has become for us.

I think that is a really important accomplishment and Boucher spoke regularly about it. If you remember the year before the Sens scored a lot of goals and had a positive goal differential at the end of the season and, yet, still missed the playoffs. This year the goal was to lower GA which they did significantly.

Boucher implemented a system that he expected would be successful in the playoffs. He was entirely correct. He is confident the Sens will be stronger in the regular season next year now that the players will start the year fully in control of the system they want to play.

I think expectations in Ottawa next year will be higher than they have been in more than 10 years. They have a solid base with great young talent coming into the system.

I wish Prock would post more. Even when you disagree with him, you can feel satisfied because he actually applies some reasoning to his thinking. Most of you seem content to post a subject and verb with little thought given to having a sincere point of view.

You mean while I was on vacation in Cuba and Aruba? Yea that happens. A real result is that after 82 games the Sens were the only playoff team with more goals against than goals for. Discuss. It's real hockey talk.

Really. Maybe the standings and playoff positioning should be based on goal differential. Or, maybe we should just go on the basis of shots directed towards to net. You really don't want to rewrite the rules on winning after the fact. It really is bad sportsmanship.

So is declaring a move by an opponent as a poor decision, yet claiming the same move by your team is a sign of progress. Especially when the kids your team is adding are substantially less talented than the kids the Leafs added last season. Substantially.

Yes, yes, we already know all that stuff. Nashville was an 8th place team that should have gone out in the first round. Pittsburg was not a great possession team and would not get past Washington. Boston was the best possession team in the playoffs and should easily eliminate Ottawa. Ottawa had a negative goal differential and would not win a game.

Boring, we play the game in 60 minutes segments and overtime when necessary. The team with the most goals inside the designated time wins. We follow the rules!
