There is trade interest in Phaneuf. Final 4 yrs at $7-$6.5-$6.5-$6.5-$6.5. Quality shutdown guy, but Sens likely to take contract/$ back.

Sens want to keep him.

Best ways to keep a player?

1. Ask him to waive

2. Shop him around the league offering to take back a bad contract

Can only keep 3 out of 4. This is about math.

So dion is clearly not one of them.

It's not math it's about ridding yourself of what you don't want. Clearly they tried to get phanuef exposed in expansion draft in hopes they'd take him, now they trying to trade him.

But they want to keep him

You can believe what you want. Phaneuf had an outstanding year and an even bigger playoff. He is hugely popular with team mates and fans. The fact that he is the target of such animosity from Leaf fans signals just how good he has been for us.

But, the expansion draft is what it is. Ottawa needs to make a choice between Karlsson, Methot, Ceci or Phaneuf.

Your logic is like saying Sammy Vatenan of Anaheim is no good because he is on the short list of players the Ducks may need to deal because of the expansion draft.

Remember the Sens are bringing in two top prospects in Chabot and Harpur. Sweet spot for the Sens going forward.

Jesus, Ceci is terrible. Throw that mother(frank)er to Vegas before you do something stupid and extend him long-term

Give him the Cowan treatment

I hope they do

It's quite a bit different than the duck situation because (a) vantenen is a good young player with a good contract (b) he didn't have a nmc they asked him to waive so expansion team might take him for free. (C) duck aren't trading him to take back another bad contract

What animosity? pointing out the hilariously flawed logic you keep spewing about sens want to keep him, by trying to expose him in expansion draft.

I believe the Sens want to move Bobby Ryan. I do not think they want to move Phaneuf. But, it appears one of Methot, Ceci or Phaneuf has to be moved.

If they do move Phaneuf it will not take away from the fact that he had an outstanding season for the Sens and was a huge factor in their playoff run.

Pierre Lebrun does a really nice job of explaining the options available to the Sens. They are at risk of losing Marc Methot for nothing in the expansion draft. They know they would have lots of teams ready to make a very big deal for Ceci. Or, they can do a lesser deal for Phaneuf or Methot.

No one said it did. Maybe it's his contract?

But they obviously targeted phanuef as the one to move or else they don't ask him to waive nmc.

This is actually a pretty good explanation of the Senator's short term issues in having to deal with a very strong group of Dmen and the expansion draft.

The Sens are very strong on D with a lot more really high end talent coming.

It really comes down to them having to decide between giving up Ceci or Methot if they don't move Phaneuf. Hard choices.

Slowly all the Leaf trolls are coming out of their holes.

So! Did you notice the Sens went to game 7 overtime in the Conference final. Right, the Leafs had two good games in playoffs.

Welcome back to the land of the living.

That is absolutely goofy. Problem is Leaf fans listen to Leaf fans and think that if enough lemmings say the same thing it might be true. This time last year the party line was that Karlsson could not play defence and could not play of the Leafs.

This year the line is the Sens have only one Dman (Karlsson) and nobody else can play on the back end. Did you notice the Sens played deep into the playoffs.

What I noticed is that since they lost, you guys are struggling for something remotely reasonable to say. I also noticed a lot of the poop-talking from your half a dozen fans came to a stop.

It has become just flat out stupid trolling.

I guess when the reality of your team is pointed out to you, it is tough to counter the facts.

Oh and by the way, I would be careful of anointing a junior, especially in the Q, as the best Dman not in the NHL, because that is a (frank)ing stupid statement.

He is not a saviour. He is a very good prospect.

Its great how the Leafs and sens have flipped. Leafs are building a strong team, have legit young Blue chip elite skill players, the Sens are old and traded futures to make a run and the Fans are pumping up prospects to convince themselves everything is great.

I wouldn't say the Leafs and Sens have switched spots, because that implies the Sens at some point had a pool of prospects/youngsters that compared to what the Leafs currently have.

Yeah, I could say the same. Any fan could make that claim.

I won't claim that we have a D prospect that I would consider as good as Chabot, because unlike Sens fans here, I am actually trying to look at reality instead of just blindly throwing out troll posts. If your whole argument is just assuming all your prospects are stars and everyone else's are crap, then fill your boots, but you will be wrong.

Besides, what about forward prospects. We had 4 rookies last year better than any you have and 3 who will likely be better than any forward you have anywhere in your organization. White is an NCAA guy, not quite the second coming of Crosby. Our goalie has upside, yours is year on/year off and nearing the end of the career.

We don't have much in the way of bad contracts anymore since you took Phanoof off our hands.

Senstroll is absolutely right. You guys sound exactly like Leafs fans from years ago when assessing your prospects. It is very easy to just believe all your prospects are ready to contribute.

What is more realistic, though painful, is to look at the LONG list of Sens prospects from recent years who amounted to nothing after you guys hyping them. The best of the bunch was probably ZibbybabaJihad who was traded for someone older... not a great idea.

Sens fans believe this is going to be a better team next year. We thought it was a good team last year and had great confidence going into the playoffs.

The Sens seldom lost if they were ahead or tied going into the third period. That is characteristic of a winning team. Night after night we watched Karlsson take over and dominate the third period.

Next year the team will be further modified with some +30 guys stepping aside (Neil, Kelly, perhaps Phaneuf) to be replace by highly talented younger players (White, Chabot, Harpur).

I said last summer, many times, I like this team a lot and was met by the same hostile reactions of Leaf fans. So, I say again, this next Sens team is going to be very very good.
