Please explain how the same line up that lead the league in loser points, and backed into the playoffs, are somehow going to "go further next year"???

Who are they adding to the lineup to improve it? Will it be some UFAs? Are they going to make a big trade?

If not, then will the same lineup, that vastly overachieved, feasted on opponents back up goaltenders, and had the easiest schedule in the entire sports world, had the most luck of any team on the planet ........... just how will they be any better than last season? Do they expect all these fluky breaks that happened last season to repeat themselves next season?

It is because nobody gives a poop about the team that lost in the conference final.

- Aetherial

Suffice it to say that no one gives a shit about a team that has not returned to the Finals, in over 50 years, and has never been to the Eastern Conference finals.

Nobody expects the Leafs to continue to have historical bad luck in overtime, so the number of "loser points" will decrease, while the numbers in the Wins column will rise. Just using the luck argument you brought up.

Just like the Sens will regress, as their luck evens out.

well, first, even if it was the same lineup, a lineup of teenagers will naturally improve on their own, after their rookie seasons.

Second, they've got 25 million in cap space and budget to work with. That can improve a team a great deal.

Third, they have no players of importance that they have to expose in the expansion draft.

Several other reasons.

It's not like we have any key players that are declining, like Craig Anderson, Dion Phaneuf, Marc Methot.

He just watched his team smack into a window that was never open, and never will be with their current core/ownership.

Cut him some slack.

... you really don't see it do you?

Leafs fans have been talking about being in a fight for a playoff spot again next year, how our defense needs help, how we need more team toughness, some people question Andersen...

Sens fans are talking about being perennial contenders and one of the top teams in the league. They ignore their bad contracts. They dismiss the factors that worked in their favor. They ignore the woefully thin farm system. They ignore the age of their key contributors, ignore the history of Guy Boucher.

So who exactly is making more of it than it really was.

Good luck re-signing Karlsson and managing to ice a competitive team.

Sens have 4 Dmen prospects that would start for the Leafs next year. Only two will make the jump to the Sens.

White will start the season in Ottawa next year. Minimum of three rookies start the season with Ottawa (Chabot, Harpur, White).

Turris would not even make the Leafs.

would we move him to wing for the third line?

Statistically Dermott is equal to or even ahead of chabot, but sens fans think leafs have no dmen prospects and that chabot is their saviour.

Not to mention Neilson.

So? Wasn't the likes OF rundblad highly ranked?

Their stats are very similar (and chabot played in a more open offensive league). Their stats are very similar when they competed on the same team.

I dont understand why he keeps going to that as a dig at the leafs.

They lost a lot of games in extra time. The didnt win them. which I would then agree is not sustainable, its not something that repeats year to year. if you win a bunch of shootouts one year its not like you will automatically the next.

Leafs had 33 regulation wins
Sens had 34

Leafs had 7 OT/SO wins and the Sens had 10.

Sens had 6 shootout wins to the Leafs 1...
Really the sens were the ones that got lucky and backed in. they were only 3 Shootout wins better

he is a better prospect, no doubt. But both Nielsen and Dermott are ahead of him in development, and had pretty solid years. They're probably lower risk.

I don't think any of them, Chabot included, project into number 1 dmen. they're all 2/3 dmen, as far as I can see.

senaturd fans should know that it's reasonably unpredictable with dmen. Not to the extent of goalies, but still hard to project. They made the same stink that Ceci was going to be some amazing dman, and he sucks. Going back further, we were also told Jared Cowen projects into Zdeno Chara, and further than that, Brian Lee was a superstar D in the making.

I am particularly reluctant to project ANY dman from the Q very high. They have a long history of being rather incapable of producing top dmen. There are maybe 2 NHL dmen in what I would consider the top 40 or 50 dmen. Vlasic and Letang. Are there any more? The last highly ranked dman to come out of the Q was Nathan Beaulieu, if I can recall. Surely he hasn't lived up to his billing. Good dmen just don't seem to come from the Q.

Neilson is a long ways out and no way ahead of Chabot in any way at all.
Dermott is closer, but I would trade both of them for Chabot and add something.

If he is not a top 4 D in the NHL is would be shocked

Sens really do have a goldmine developing on the backend.

Karlsson is the cornerstone.

Chabot will make the team out of camp and will get lots of playing time. I think Harpur also makes the team out of camp. He was very strong in the games he played against the Rangers during the playoffs. Makes you wonder why he did not get more regular season play. Consensus was Claesson was the Sens 3rd best Dman during playoffs. He got better every round. I see him playing lots of minutes next year.

Out of Ceci, Phaneuf, Methot, Borowiecki and Wideman; one goes to Vegas, two play for the Sens next year and two get dealt before the expansion draft trade deadline. (I really hope they keep Phaneuf and team him with Chabot).
