No, by having 2nd place in your grasp and losing 3 of the last 4 at home to fall to 8th and play the best team in the league. Choke

nahahaha, senaturd fans were claiming they'd pass Montreal and take first in the division.

Choke.

It's even more rare a team with only 38 wins in regulation and overtime makes the playoffs.

Playing the senaturds would have been amazing. Easy win for the Leafs.

- prock

When talking about the playoffs, and then trying to spin a negative by adding Regulation wins and OT together is laughable.

The only true comparison is Regulation wins A.K.A 5 vs 5.

The Bruins have the edge in Regulation wins 38 - 34 over the Sens.

While the crapple laffs had 33 Regulation wins, vs the Capitals 45.

The crapple laffs only managed to squeak into the plays, on the strength of there loser points.

The loser points leader leafs finished with fewer Wins, than the two teams behind them in the Conference............ so failure to win in overtime and shootouts is what propelled the crapple laffs into the playoffs.

Good luck vs the Capitals.

this coming from the crapple laffs fan who predicted the crapple laffs would catch and pass the Senators, and end up higher in the Division standings.

crappled the bed, again.

I expect their expectation s would have been lowered regardless of whether they faced ottawa or Washington, knowing full well that they wouldn't be able to beat either team. Obviously more lowered against the caps though, being completely outmatched (by a ridiculous margin) at every position.

So dumb

The Caps spent the most time in the NHL leading games, the Leafs were #2

Good teams get leads (Leafs), really good teams are able to keep them and win the games (Caps), the Leafs had some trouble early on doing that, the 2nd half was much better. A young team getting better.

but loser points derp!

Good teams get AND hold leads. (Caps)

One dimensional teams with AWFUL defence and mediocre goaltending get leads and then blow them. (Laffs)

Yes thats what I said

Do you have any thoughts on Teams failing to get extra points that helps them get into the playoffs?

Good teams win in regulation, the leafs fell short.

The Capitals managed to hold most of their leads, while the leafs blew most of their leads and that's expected from a team that has not completed their re-build, and has gaping holes on their defense, and yet another, in a long line of back-up goaltenders that they've traded for, and are trying again to convert into a starter that can cover up the mistakes from a porous defensive corp.

Playoff games are 5 vs 5, so how a team plays, with the lead in close games, and the ability to hold that lead, gives you a better indication on how a team will perform in the playoffs.

The Leafs had one of the best records in the league over the second half of the season.

the senaturds certainly did not.

So, which dimension have the senatards been missing?

The only thing in the regular season, that compares favourably to the playoffs, is 5 vs 5 regulation wins.

You are hanging onto regular season 3 vs 3 OT and Shootouts ............. which don't happen in the playoffs .............. you've got to drop that bone, it's irrelevant to the playoffs.

somewhat true, they're kids, and they're learning. We're all actually amazed at how fast they're learning. It's a pretty phenomenal sign for the future.

I personally put them as the favourite for the division next year. Which is fantastic. The goal has never been to JUST make the playoffs. Not for the Leafs anyway.

The Senators and the crapple laffs both played a 82 game season, so you can slice and dice all you want, in a weak attempt to find the silver lining you want.

End of the day, the final standings show how the teams measure up, and get seeded for the playoffs.

And I can agree pretty much with what you say, in this post.

You and I BOTH, at the beginning of the season, posted that we both thought the two Ontario teams would, at best, be in the mix to compete for a WC spot.

Both teams exceeded both of our expectations.

I suspect the leafs had one of the biggest improvements, in points, in the NHL........... don't know where to look that up though.

Senators set a of goal of making the playoffs (GM announced in the Media) and now they're setting the goal of winning the first round vs the Bruins .............. and even with Home Ice, which is overrated in my opinion, I see this series as going either way, a 50/50 chance for both teams, and will most likely be determined, partially on injuries and which goaltender plays better ............ a coin flip if you wish.

I don't see the leafs vs the Capitals going the leafs way ........... but they've exceeded everyone's expectations to date.

I am not hanging on to anything.
The Leafs got a lot of games to OT in the regular season. A large part of that was because they were leading, but were not able to hold on to the Lead.

the caps are the best team in the League, best goal differential and most time spend leading. Its a long shot the Leafs win, but thats ok

The NHL determines wins based on who scored the most goals in a game.

Pull out your fancy boy stats all you want, and you can rationalize anything you want, but at the end of the day, fancy boy stats don't determine the standings or the outcomes of games, or playoff series.

Two teams, the Coyotes and the Panthers, last off season, went all in on Analytics, to how to structure their teams. They traded and drafted all based on Analytics, and structured their entire organiztion and systems based on Analytics .................. what happened to these two teams, that like you, put all their money on Analytics?
