Ooh are we back to the Matthews = Yakupov trope?
- Feeling Glucky?

that's spatso, not me.

Let's just compare Yakupov and Matthews first season .................. any need to go on?

Yeah, Edmonton, would suck to turn out like them eh?

The Leafs never considered trading Nylander.

It's not a lot of work to do. The offense is set, the goaltending is pretty good. One top pairing defensive dman is really all they need. That doesn't really constitute a lot of work to me.

Lets also be clear about Edmonton: trading Hall for a 2nd pairing dman isn't why they're in the playoffs. The emergence of McDavid and Drai is.

Leafs don't need to trade Nylander for D... and him playing well hasn't decreased the ability to do that, it allows the Leafs to go after bigger fish if they do want to trade him. Some amazing mental gymnastics behind Nylander performing well being a negative for the Leafs.

This sounds a lot like what Edmonton fans were saying a few years back.

Don't count your chickens just yet.

The leafs, from what I've heard, need a lot of work to do, to fix their defense, and according to various sports commemorators, there is little to help the porous leaf defense in prospect pool.

So at some point, someone of value, is going to have to be dealt from their current roster, to help shore up the crappy defense, if the leafs can't develop from within.

I heard rumours, earlier in the season that the leafs realized this, and were considering trading Nylander, before he picked up his play ......... and now he's a keeper, so they'll have to fill that gaping hole some how someway.

Remember, this is what I've heard and read, not my speculation ............ and I'll deffer to your opinion, and you're obviously better plugged into the to leafs farm system than I am.

This is not like the collapse in Boston a few years ago that resulted in the rebuild finally being allowed to become whole. The Boston collapse destroyed the soul of many faithful. This year the Leafs played at or above expectations and that leaves fans hopeful. It has been a good year for them.

I expect the summer talk to be entirely off the charts. But that is what Leaf fans are about.

Guess it was just speculation in the local toronto media, to stir up listeners to get responses then.

Say, if it's just one pair of D men needed ............. where to they come from, as I mentioned before, apparently they're not in the leafs system?

Sens would never deal Phaneuf to Leafs. Guy has been rock solid all year.

Two players alone don't make the playoffs. The emergence of McDavid, Draisatl, and the accumulation of a boatload of talent otherwise is why they are making the playoffs. Despite their horrid, stupid management.

Will the sens be firing another coach or chasing another captain out of town this summer?

Or will that wait until next year?

I think the Sens rest Karlsson for the rest of the season. He will have played less minutes this year than in previous years. Don't you think he will be a real force once playoffs start?

one dman, not one pairing.

Who knows where it will come from. They have something like $30M in cap space this summer, and some pretty solid young dmen on the Marlies, so I'm not sure why you say it's not in the system. It very well could be.

But I see no reason why they couldn't sign a guy like Alzner or Michael Stone. There is a good chance Washington can't afford Alzner, given that half their roster is hitting free agency.

That said, they won't need anything more than what they have now to be the best team in the division. Just another year. It's the shutdown dman they need to get to contender status.

Not really no. I think Boston will key on his side of the ice, and score a tonne of goals.

I think they're licking their chops right now, being this fortunate.

Andrew Nielsen and Travis Dermott are a couple of the best d-men in the AHL... who's to say the improvement won't come from within?

No, but they're the difference between this year and last, IMO.

Who knows where Edmonton would have ended up with a healthy McDavid.

I don't even think it's IF. I think it's how much improvement. I don't think either projects to be the dman that would slot in as the solution to the shutdown guy we need, all on his own. It's possible though. They're pretty good. The Marlies are among the best in the AHL, yet again, and this year it's more due to their defense, instead of the unbelievable firepower they've had in recent years. With those 2 leading the charge.

I don't think the need is necessarily shut-down guys, in the traditional big guy who throws hits and blocks shots sense. It's guys that can control the puck, and make smart decisions with it.

they need someone solid in his own end. It would go a long ways to help that first pairing. A Vlasic type.

It'll be an interesting off-season for sure.

I believe we see some kind of trade involving Bozak and JVR. Leafs have enough forward depth that those two are expendable for a price that wouldnt be prohibitive to other teams(as one of the "big-3" would be)

What about the Leafs Matthew's ?

Yeah... Same thing. Dont beat your chest too hard yet. Leafs have still a long way to go.

- Pecafan Fan

I don't know when or why you became such an bumhole, but if you were paying attention I am far from beating my chest about the Leafs. If you're paying attention also you would know that Matthews is not nearly the team-defining player that the other 3 are.

I'd rather trade Bozak. He scores 50 to 60 points a year, should be able to get something decent for him.

I like Bozak though. I just like JVR more. If you're using Bozak as your third line centre, you've got a tonne of depth. Maybe we could trade him to Ottawa for Methot. He'd look good on their first line.

other 3? who are you referring to?

I don't know about chest beating, but the Leafs are among the most improved in the league. They've got piles of top young talent, and are a team fast on the rise.

That's a fact, not chest beating.

I love how much it burns senatard fans up.

In this case it is a Habtard, who used to be a pretty decent guy, but has clearly become among the butt-hurt masses.

You guys are starting your summer talk way too soon. Leafs will make playoffs. There is still more hockey to play.
