Pierre McGuire says insiders believe that the Sens are playing a style of hockey with the 4 line depth that can take them all the way to the top of the mountain.

A lot of manure to wade through here.

1)Yes, Ottawa has a lousy roster. Being in a playoff spot in the Atlantic isn't a huge achievement for a team that's spent the last couple of seasons gutting it's cupboards to win now. If Montreal, the top team in the Atlantic was in the Metropolitan division, they'd be in the 2nd wild card spot.

2)No, Craig button's vomit doesn't mean you have a good prospect pool

3)When your wins are clearly won in an unsustainable fashion, as judged by stats that have predicted either collapses or massive regression fairly consistently, your roster isn't good, it's lucky.

4) just because you think a career AHLer is a top prospect, doesn't mean your rival actually traded away their top prospect. Sorry dopps.

so then why aren't the leafs there......I mean they have the greatest rookie class in the HISTORY of the NHL. You'd figure that such a large group of extremely elite players could at the very least get their team into the playoffs in such a weak division..............

these posts by you are SOOOOOOOO delicious to sens fans because it's a very very clear indication that it drives you crazy that Ottawa is successful this year while your team is playing itself right into 9th

I guess those lucky Sens were lucky again last night.

Phaneuf was a monster. He played a really tough, physical game. He ended up +4 on the game.

Phaneuf is not given enough love by some Sens fans. Only, just recently have some come around to realizing what he does for the Sens every night. Nobody could be more into a game than he was last night. He might not log the same big minutes as Karlsson or Ceci but his contribution is absolutely cornerstone in the success of the Sens. I am disappointed that some Sens fans do not recognize the full throated warrior that Phaneuf has become under Boucher's overall game plan.

I believe the Leafs made a huge error in trading Phaneuf. They gave Ottawa an opportunity to stabilize their back end. More important, they took away the only credible Dman who could mentor and shape Morgan Rielly's game. This year Morgan Rielly has seen both his confidence and his game disappear. On the other hand, Ceci now routinely steps up as the lead shut down Dman against the other teams top players and frequently logs even more minutes than Karlsson.

Phaneuf has helped Karlsson become a better captain and he has helped Ceci become a far better shut down Dman. Ottawa is a far better defender in every aspect of the game than in the past few years and Phaneuf is a major contributor to the improvement.

Oh no.....he's doing well in the 2nd division of the SEL, which is about the equivalent of Jr A hockey here. I remember rundblad tearing up the 1st division (which is like AHL equivalent) and remind me again how his nhl career is going.

Because they're not a great team yet. As a Leafs fan, I'm thrilled at the quick progress, but competing for a playoff spot was a very unlikely best-case scenario for this year.

I guess this outline the difference between Leafs and Sens fans this year. We have realistic expectations for our team, and are happy to see them exceeding them, with a bright future, while you guys are clearly very insecure, knowing that your team is in win now mode, without any real shot of actually winning. Hence pumping up prospects that aren't even on your team to make yourselves feel better.

Like I said, I'll be concerned about the Sens when they get proper ownership, management, and commit to a much-needed rebuild.

A LOT of fantasy wishful thinking to wade through here.

1) Why do you avoid explaining what you mean by "win now"? Is it because you want everyone to believe that Ottawa management is doing whatever it can to win the Cup this season..... even though you can't prove it, and the media reports that I posted, clearly contradicts your false narrative??? .........

2) Any sports journalist, columnist or TV pundit that says ANYTHING positive about the Senators organization, coaches, prospects or players are spewing "vomit" or "don't know anything about hockey" or are "blowing smoke up your ass" and the same goes if they're saying ANYTHING negative about the leafs ........... the only good sports journalist, columnist or TV pundit is one that spoon feeds the so called leaf nation, exactly what they want to hear ... only feel good positive optimistic POVs about how good the leafs will be at some undetermined time in the future, until the next re-build ...... rise lather repeat

3) When judging stats, always avoid any and every stat, that in some way could make the Senators look even remotely good .......... especially the standings, where today, the Senators have the ninth best record (.615) in the NHL ............. and if you have to address them, claim it's "lucky" and "they have an easy schedule" or they always "face the back up goaltender" or anything other than the reality of that the Senators defend better than most teams, have better goal-tending than most teams, score enough to win close games, are able to hold onto third period leads than most teams

4) Just because you think a young player, playing for Timra IK in the Swedish 1st Division, NOT the SHL, but a Non-Elite hockey league, was one of Ottawa's top prospect, doesn't mean your rival actually traded away their top prospect. Sorry Glucksy baby.

Please note ............ when you see nothing but leaf fans posting negative comments about the Senators, over the last 5 or six pages, and NOTHING about the leafs .......... clearly they've faced the reality of the annual "falling of the leafs" from playoff contention ........ and to vent their frustration with this annual event, they dump on the Sens ........... and it's just too much fun to read all the leaf fans desperately trying to convince themselves that the Senators are somehow just lucky, and the leafs are destined for a Cup in a year or two.

Oh yeah, the Q produces elite dmen all the time.

when you look at the top 50 scoring dmen in the NHL right now, you can barely find anyone that came from somewhere else.

oh wait. Kris letang. that's all.

maybe that's why their forwards have learned to score goals. the d there are useless. their forwards get lots of practice with good scoring chances.
