remember when the Oilers were tanking, to collect high draft lottery positions? leaf fans were dumping all over that strategy (because the leafs were building with trades and UFAs)......... fast forward to the Shanaplan, and now leaf fans claimed that any team that was not tanking was crazy, because tanking was the only way to do a proper re-build. fast forward a few years from now, and when the leafs start trading prospects and picks to "load up" for a Cup run, then that will be the correct strategy to build a Cup contender.

It's all relative to what the leafs are doing at any given time, and no other team is doing anything right, except for the leafs .............. but the fact that haven't been to the Cup finals in 50 years totally contradicts their claims that the leafs are on the right track. JFJ was going to bring the Cup to toronto, then it was BB, and now it's the (abadonded) Shanaplan ................ lather, rise & repeat.

There's no problem loading up for a cup run if you have a chance to win the cup.

That's why we're laughing at the Sens.

Sens fans, no cups or valuable rookies of their own, so they look to other franchises.

Don Brennan is one of the worst...Sens should take whatever they can get for him

its not very day you can get something for one of the worst producing players in the NHL

- senstroll

they get a second, and some defenceman, Jyrki Jokipakka whom I've never heard of.................. Sens also sent Mike Kostka to Calgary.

Stalberg, who the Sens traded a 3rd rounder for, has 1 more point than Fehr, who the Leafs were given a 4th round pick to take.

Sens found a way to make themselves worse in both the short and long term.

Well done.

Best interview of the day was Pierre McGuire who talked about the Sens deep pool of outstanding prospects. He said that Colin White is the next Patrice Bergeron. "He is that good" McGuire stressed. He also said that Logan Brown will play top NHL minutes and that Thomas Chabot is going to be one of the best Dmen in the NHL.

Ottawa was able to make the moves they did today because they know what is coming in their system.

You sure you wanna take the prospect advice of the guy that thought Montreal made a mistake taking price, and should have taken Brule.....

Yes, there was a lot of comedy gold today. Did you see the guys from letterkenny and goon?

Pierre was definitely in his element, but those guys were hilarious.

A lot of fans don't agree with tanking, from all fanbases. I don't really care what those people believe.

I personally can say I was very critical of Edmonton's management, not because of their methods, but more their execution. Specifically who they were drafting. i.e. ignoring their D for so long. I can't tell you how many conversations I had ripping the Oilers for their drafting. The response I got was normally "What were they supposed to do, leave Taylor Hall/Nugent-Hopkins/Yakupov on the table, and draft a Dman?" To which I replied "Yes, they were. Trade down if that's preferable to you".

Hard to know how things would have turned out had they done that. What would their team look like?

Ryan Murray instead of Yakupov?
Maybe Adam Larsson instead of Nugent-Hopkins?
Maybe Gudbranson instead of Hall?

Short of Hall/Gudbranson, I'd say they'd probably have been a better team. Until McDavid came along, because they probably wouldn't have gotten him, ironically.

But they still have issues with their D.

Okay, so now we head down the home stretch. The next 20 games will tell us everything that matters. Ottawa believes they are far stronger with Andy back in net. Andy is top 5 in his GAA. Condin was below .900 in his last 15 outings. Love the way things have been set up for the stretch. Guy Boucher is thrilled with the additions. In fact, he has said it is exactly what he wanted to bring this team to the next level. We start tonight.

guess they figured he was going to be taken for nothing in the expansion draft, so traded him to something for him ........... should have just left him in the AHL for the season, until he showed a significant improvement in his game.
