Well it's obvious that he's just trying to provoke a response from leaf fans. IF the leafs GM and scouting staff had ALL smoked some killer sinsemilla just prior to the Entry draft, and selected Laine instead of Matthews, then perhaps he would have a leg to stand on, when stating the leafs should have taken one over the other ............. but they did not, and made the EXACT same choice that any organization that was in a complete "tear down & re-build" mode, and needed a first line center, would have done.

I think it is amusing that everything blue and white has begun to obsess on Laine.

Laine has the inside track on the Calder and despite having been out with an injury he continues to grow his game being name 1st star of the week.

I think this is one of the truly great years for rookies. I enjoy rookie talk and am not happy that Leaf fans want to discourage any talk about the Calder and Laine.

It really is. Thanks to the Leafs providing not 1, not 2 but 3 of the best rookies you talk about. I dont understand why you think Leaf fans arent encouraged to talk about them. In fact, it seems like youre the one who has a problem with the fact two Leaf rookies have just about as good a shot as any rookie to win the Calder. I personally dont care who wins the award. It wont make me think any more or less of Laine Matthews Marner etc..

what i find great for the game., especially rhe canadian side of things, is rhat the Sens Habs and Leafs are all so close in the stsndings with little of a gap seperating the teams. Good times.

Look who he plays with, and who Matthews is playing with ........... then just drop this issue ........... the horse has been dead for months, the leafs made the best choice for the leafs' needs, end of story.

Matthews would be the right choice for anyone picking #1.

Its not even a debate anymore.
Laine the elite sniper who has an amazing shot is tied with Matthews in goals. you would think he has 10 more goals based on the talk

Matthews is doing it with rookies and with much more sustainable underlying numbers.

Both guys have come better than advertised.

I am happy the leafs have one and the sens and nucks have neither.

This is true. When Laine is clearly the 3rd best player in his rookie class, it's a damn good year for rookies.

He'd easily be #1 in a year that didn't feature two other rookies that were his equal offensively, but lightyears ahead of him defensively. It's no slight to him.

It'd be a lot better if they weren't all marginal teams in a weak division.

The only one obsessing on Laine is you.

If I was given the choice between having Laine, even if he was the best rookie, which he is not, and 3 of the 4 best rookie forwards in the league, easy decision, I take 3 of the best 4 rookie forwards.

Not to mention a rookie Dman in the top 2 or 3 of dman scoring.

Another great game by Laine. He surely is a phenom and now probably tops most ballots for the Calder. Matthews is having great year but everyone loves the goal scorer that can fire the big ones.

I'll take the player who plays both ends and puts up 3as in a win than the guy who gets 2 goals in a loss and spent a good 30 seconds on the PP, waving his stick around asking for the puck, rather than actually engaging.

its too bad Matthews had the better game and led his team to a win. everyone loves the guy who gets you wins, not just goals. which is why it was good to see Kessel go. doing nothing but score goals isnt enough in todays game. id rather my team win than lose all fancy

Which big ones? The ones on his own net? The 5 empty netters?

What a game by Laine and Matthews last night. Future's bright in Ottawa and Toronto. These two have bought the battle of Ontario back to life.

Laine two great snipes last night, invisible other than that but two great goals. Reminds me of Kessel quite a bit.

What can you about Matthews? Unbelievable vision and celebral play for those assists. Very few players can make those assists. Using the boards for Bill Nye to score and fooling all three Jets players on the game winning goal.

So, so fortunate to have him. And Nylander? Wowzers. Some of the best hands I've ever seen for a kid so young. When Marner come back, just sit back and enjoy.
