Ah! Come on guys, lighten up. Is it so hard to admit that Phaneuf was a great acquisition for the Sens? Does not change the fact that it was also a good ideal for the Leafs in terms of their overall development. Everything looks good from my perspective.

oh

and this guy:

Most of the media are expecting significant changes to the Leaf roster and behind the bench. I do not expect a lot of change. My guess is they will try to package Phaneuf but will not find a dance paertner.

I would never call it a "great acquisition".

Ottawa needed a "Phaneuf type" of D-man for their second pairing, as it was obvious, that after a number of serious injuries and surgeries, that Cowen's time in the NHL was over ....... so they made the trade to unload a bunch of players no longer considered part of their future, and the leafs pretty much did the same thing, but perhaps with more need to free up cap space.

Each team received what they wanted ........ Ottawa now has solid, hard nosed type of D-man for their second pairing, the type that forwards don't necessarily like to stand beside when in front of the net.

Phaneuf plays a steady solid physical type of game, that the Sens need .............nothing more nothing less. The fact that he contributes in other areas, on and off the ice, is just a bonus.

He's not the superstar defenseman you seem to trying to convince yourself, and others he is. leaf fans are happy he's gone, for their money reasons mostly, and Ottawa fans are happy that he fills the physical role that Cowen was earmarked for, but could not, for the aforementioned reasons.......... nothing more nothing less.

I think your assessment is correct. Your understanding of its importance to a team like Ottawa is deficient. Karlsson is having the best season of his career, Ceci has grown his game enormously as the season progresses. Phaneuf has been a huge influence in all those positives. He played a monster game last night and deserves to be recognizeed as a key part of the improvement in the Sens play. The fight with Jamie Benn was a really strong part of the game.

This guy will probably find it hard to admit:

Every team has a bad contract or, at least one, they wish were different. In the case of the Leafs the Clarkson and Phaneuf deals are very pricey and really cuts down on their options this off season.

I don't think of myself as a troll but you cannot imagine my joy to think you are actually going back over all my posts covering several years in hopingg to find me saying something that argues better against me than you are able to argue against me. Perhaps you need to investigate how much it costs to buy a new life.

Ottawa played a well below average game, and Phaneuf did not play a "monster game"........ he made few mistakes, scored a goal, and oh yeah, he had a fight ..... and the jury is still out on whether it did anything to inspire the team. But you're entitled to your opinion ............ but I'm beginning to think you must be purposely inflating his role on the team, just to get a response from leaf fans.

The overwhelming difference in Ottawa's game this season vs last system, is the new coaching staff, and the implementation of the defense first system, that ALL the players have embraced, and played for the majority of their games.

Just look at the difference in GA vs last season, after 52 games, the Senators, as a team (not Phaneuf alone) have allowed 25 fewer goals this season.

last nights game was "lucky game" for the Sens, all teams have then throughout the season.

If you think otherwise, then I'll use your words, right back at you ......"Your understanding of its (the new system) importance to a team like Ottawa is deficient."
