I absolutely remember. And I agree, he's developed into a very good dman. I'm just reluctant to say Norris winner at this point. I don't really see that just yet.

Maybe i'm biased. I had him as the top player in the draft all along.

You're not the only one. I'm not really saying you're wrong either.

ok well use one of the 10-15 D that went before pick #64 as an example then that are nobodys ..or use Luke Schenn

the NHL is littered with these stories, WJC heroes who flame out in the NHL and 3- 5th rounders who are playing top 4 mins

- senstroll

I think there was like an 8-10 year window there where you saw a ton of highly touted dmen, who were picked high in the draft, who ended up flaming out. my thoughts on that is that for years people just looked at the size of a dman and that was the most important factor in determining whether or not they'd be good.....forget skating, shooting, hockey iq, etc, etc....if they were 6'4 or bigger they were a 1st rd pick.

I think people are starting to get away from that now which is why over the last few years you haven't seen nearly as many highly drafted flops

The point being, is that you're claiming that "Sens Fans" think 100% that Chabot is going to be a NHL star, or whatever ............. but your basing it only on ONE Sens fan, Spatso.

Anyone with a modicum of NHL historical understanding, knows you have to wait and see if a Prospect who has shown great promise at the Junior Level, the WJC level and even at the AHL level .......... plays at the NHL level, for a couple or more seasons before knowing what you have in that player.

Don't make the mistake assuming Spatso is representative of all Sens fans, more than you are representative of all leaf fans.

Spatso famously said that "Shane Prince" was the steal of the 2011 draft" ... and so far that does not seem to be the fact he insisted it was at the time.

- D0PPELGANGER

The chabot hype train is barreling along at the moment..hard to find a sens fan that doesnt think he will be good in the NHL

I wish I could dig up those posts from Spatso about how the Sens had 4 or 5 prospects ready to make the Jump to the NHL and contribute, and how the sens were building a strong prospect pool...it was around 2011-12 ..Prince, Pimple Noesoen etc.. all were going to make the team... 5 years later..maybe 1 was an NHL player...for another team

there is a big difference between the majority of sens fans (along with just about every single analyst and expert) who think Chabot will be a good NHL player......and the few homers who are 100000% sure that he'll be an elite top end player.

All voted WJC "best D Man"

Dion Phaneuf
Marc Staal
Erik Johnson
Drew Doughty
Erik Karlsson
Alex Pietrangelo
Ryan Ellis
Brandon Gormley
Jacob Trouba
Rasmus Ristolainen
Vladislav Gavrikov
Zach Werenski

Yeah, the NHL is "Littered" with former WJC MVPs............. perhaps more "hits" than misses though.

Voted WJC MVP

2006 Evgeni Malkin
2007 Carey Price
2008 Steve Mason
2009 John Tavares
2010 Jordan Eberle
2011 Brayden Schenn
2012 Evgeny Kuznetsov
2013 John Gibson
2014 Filip Forsberg
2015 Sam Reinhart
2016 Jesse Puljujärvi

So Chabot won BOTH tournament Best D Man and tournament MVP ........ so I guess he's sure to be an everyday NHLer, at some point ........... next season, perhaps, would not be surprised, or disappointed if he starts his pro career in the AHL.

Interesting that if you go back another 5 or 10 years in that Dman list from where you stopped, you get a good ole pile of dog crap.

Either way, there are some great dmen on that list, some guys that are considered good young dmen (but haven't established themselves as top dmen) and there are some very underwhelming ones too, like Gormley, Johnson, Staal, Phaneuf, Ellis.

It's like the whole laine vs Matthews thing. I didn't know laine was the sens best player until i came here.

Just as many as there were in the leafs net vs the Islanders.

Let's remember that Ottawa's starting goaltender, has only played in 19 games so far this season, and managed to win 12 of them. The remaining 32 games were played with either our 2nd or 3rd back up goaltenders.

The leafs have had their starting goaltender play 43 games for them .......... I suspect if Ottawa had their starter for 43 games this season, they would probably be sitting much more comfortably in a playoff spot than they are now.
