the kessel trade came up in tanner's blog because he said the caps could get Duchene for like a couple of c or b level prospects and picks...........and he said the leafs came out even in the kessel trade because they didn't get much quality and it made them a worse team, allowing them to draft Matthews.

literally the most ass backwards logic I've ever read.

its kind of like the hall trade. did they get good value? (frank) no. did it make them a better team? yes. had the leafs not been lucky with the lottery there'd be literally nothing positive about that trade though.

Ottawa can certainly make a strong pitch for Duchene. Not sure it is the right thing to do.

i find matthews the stretch part of the kessel trade. that's really indirect.

we have james greenway and kapenen directly for the trade. andersen and rychel directly from assets we got in the trade.

Not great, but something. The salary retention part of that deal was where we got bent over imo.

kessel's value was hurt because of his ntc, much like nash to NYR and kesler to Anaheim

sakic has an open market with Duchene. They’ll be plenty of demand to drive up the price

I suspect you are right in the idea that there will be enough demand to drive up the price. But I don't think the demand will be nearly as broadly based as some people might think. The announcement that the cap will be unchanged next year starts to become spooky for some teams. There are going to be some very good players available this summer and lots of teams trying to move players. May not be near the push at the trade deadline as projected.

They are usually at most one or 2 big trades at/close to the tdl.
Maybe pitts moves maf, but hardly big at this point.

Whoever is projecting big movement at the tdl is an idiot. For the most part, it will be same old bunch of tommy wingels moving.

Expansion draft deadline will see some bigger names moved.

I've never seen a Canadian team win a cup before.

I moved to Canada in 07 so I've only ever witnessed 5 teams win a cup. All American.

I'm not allowed to count cups I've never witnessed apparently.

I've seen many Canadian based teams win Cups, on TV of course, beginning of course with B&W TV in the early 60s.

I've never seen one. I also wasn't alive for most of the Canadian teams winning a cup. And if you're not alive, you can't count them. Nucks fans taught me that.

Looks a lot like the Sabres, after taking an early lead, played more defensively, and jumped on Senators mistakes as the game went on.

Doesn't look like Lehner had much work to do, as the Sens were mainly kept to the perimeter.

Yes, it should have been a win, perhaps not easy, but they carried the play ........... but a brutal giveaway by our third string goaltender handed the point in hand, at the end of the game, to the Panthers.

- D0PPELGANGER

Hmm another game Ottawa was held to the perimeter, and lost.

I watched the game, Lehner had to make a great saves .......... one the best games I've seen him play since he was traded. If he can stay healthy, and keep his temper under control, he'll do well as their starter.

BTW, Eichel is one hell of a player, man can he skate well.

You're not going to win many games from the perimeter. I'm not saying Lehner didn't make some great saves, but it really doesn't look like he was challenged too much.

Him playing great kind of underscores why Ottawa needed to generate more shots from the danger zones.

They've won 3 fewer games than the division leader, and have played 4 fewer games ....... so they must be doing something right.

Buffalo seemed like the larger team, and their defensive zone game was a result of that. Ottawa could have used Chris Neil on the fore-check, but was a healthy scratch.

Condon also seems to be close to running on empty, after 28 straight appearances ........ at least the warning light's on.

There are some optimistic reports that Anderson might just be ready to play by Saturday, but I think the 14th is a little more realistic.
