My question stands.

Condensing a player's career to a single tournament is the kind of thing low-IQ individuals do when they make claims like Laine being better than Matthews.

"Thomas Chabot was named the best player at the world junior hockey championship. The Canadian defenceman was selected as the most valuable player at the under-20 tournament just moments after Canada lost the final 5-4 in a shootout against the United Sates on Thursday.

“That’s the last thing on my mind,” said a distraught Chabot after the loss. “It’s definitely a bonus at the end of the day to be rewarded for my efforts, but we didn’t get the result that we wanted. That’s all that matters.”

The 19-year-old Chabot was dominant throughout the tournament. The offensive-minded defenceman often drove the play for the Canadians while putting on a show for the fans. He finished the tournament with 10 points – the most by any blueliner.

The native of Sainte-Marie, Que., was also the only defenceman to record at least one point in every single game during the two-week tournament.

“He was great, he was dominant,” said head coach Dominique Ducharme of his top defenceman. “He was good offensively and defensively, shutting down the best players on the other side. He was just tremendous all tournament.

“He was a great leader for us. They named him MVP and he deserves it. I’m happy for him.”

In Thursday’s gold-medal game, the Ottawa Senators prospect was on the ice more often than not. He played 43:53 – more than half the game – including 11:06 in the 20-minute overtime period. The six-foot-two Chabot finished the game with a goal and an assist.

“With the fans cheering in the crowd, I don’t think I would have ever run out of energy,” said Chabot, who was drafted 18th overall by Ottawa in 2015."

Oh no. A guy who had a decent performance in one of the worst WJCs ever, when almost 20 of the best players were missing, is somehow supposed to make us feel jealous, when we've got 3 of the top contenders for the Calder trophy, 3 top scorers of the leading 4, 6 in the top 14, the 4th highest scoring rookie dman....

shakin in my boots. over Thomas (frank)ing Chabot. LOL

agreed, neilsen and his 28 points this year is dime a dozen.

what does that make a 4-pack of hagg, morin, sanheim and alt with only 33 points combined?

All of which are older than Nielsen.

Sanheim is okay. Nothing special. The rest are longshots for the NHL.

Looking at Morin and Hagg's stats they remind me a lot of Polak and Hunwick respectively.

Actually saw Morin in the Q a while back. Wasn't impressed that day

Out of all of them, Sanheim and Nielsen are the best of the bunch. Realistic projections are probably second pairing guys. If either the Flyers or Leafs get a first pairing guy out of them, they should be happy. If Nielsen continues his strong play through the season though, I have a hard time seeing how he wouldn't have surpassed Sanheim, especially since he's younger and supposedly behind him.

Either way, I don't care, the comment about the Leafs having a prospect on the same level is crap. If it were said about Provorov, that's different. Not so much a prospect anymore though.

They probably have MORE prospects at that next tier below Sanheim and Nielsen, but few of those develop into NHLers, and even fewer develop into top NHLers.

forgot Myers

not to mention the just turned 20yo stud already on the team

Leafs behind the 8-ball on developing defenseman. only a matter of time before they get antsy and overpay for a mid-tier one. Much tougher to acquire than forwards.

I don't know about "behind the 8 ball". No one expected the Leafs to be so far up the standings this year. They have a few NHL caliber dmen, they have a couple of decent prospects. Nielsen and Dermott. But you're right, that's about it.

The Flyers have more prospects, but also have more NHL spots to fill, as they have a pretty distinct shortage of ACTUAL NHL dmen. Provorov may (probably) will eventually become a first pairing guy, we'll see how that goes. Maybe Gost learns how to play D. The rest, could go in any direction. Don't county your chickens before they hatch.... for now, all of those guys other than provorov are hardly lighting up the AHL.

They also have several decent forward prospects to work with, if a trade is required, and poop tonne of cap room and low cost cap hit players to work with.

I'm not worried. There aren't too many holes in the organization right now. At all.

How do Hagg, Morin, Sanheim and Myers stay away from collecting any points so effectively?
