Definitely in the running. I'd say only Babcock or Torts will have a shot at it (so far).

It's just crazy to see the difference in this team now Phaneuf has left. The smile on everyone's faces within the organization is something I've not see before. They look happy to get to work every day. All it took was trading Dion away.

Sens will face the Leafs new back up. I expect the Sens to win. And Spatso to be at his best trollorama. Maybe he'll even talk about Laine and the Calder to deflect.

There was an interesting debate on local radio (yesterday) on the logic of having the backup play Saturday, instead of Friday.

Saturday is a divisional game, and a head to head Win (for the leafs) might factor into the tie breaking formula at the end of the season, if both teams are tied in points.

The Win on Saturday was therefore seen as more important, regardless of the result on Friday, and Andersen would give the leafs a better chance at winning on Saturday.

Did watch the highlights of the leafs game last night, and it looked like an easy win for them............ but that's just from watching the highlights.

Sois calme.

Leaf fans are just hyper agitated over the fact that Kessel is about to win the Conn Smyth.

All the talk is about Phaneuf is merely a distraction away from the Leaf's awkwardness around Kessel's huge success.

Phaneuf will be very strong with Ceci next and Leaf fans will search desperately to find something else they can provide a distraction from the world of hurt they are going to absorb next year.

Everyone needs to remember that the Leafs have only succeeded well at one thing and that is failing. They have be monstrously accomplished in failing. The collapse in Boston a couple of years ago actually fits the overused epic category.

The only time the Leafs have made the playoffs in ten years turns out to be the biggest collapse ever. Next year will likely not be any better. And, you will still have the blue and white chorus singing in unison that "your nearly as bad as we are."

Look, it is pretty straight forward. The Leafs are the last place team in the league and they are about to discover how little impact a group of 18 and 19 year old players have once the hard pace of the NHL kicks in. This is the normal summer buzz of the blue and white. It is completely gone by Christmas and we will see the same pattern next summer.

Much of the bravado is intended to mask the loser results of the past years. But the scoreboard does not lie. The Leafs had the worst record in the NHL. As they stand right now, they are actually a lot less competitive than what they were at this time last year. So get ready for the same result next year.

Also get ready for a whole bunch more postings on how bad the Sens are. Shame is a toxic emotion. It seeks darkness and the edges of our feelings. It becomes infused with our identity. Most Leaf fans feel trapped by an overwhelming identity with the stain of shame. Shame in this case is not how you feel as a Leaf fan, it is what you are. People begin to think that losing is not just what we do, it is the foundation of our being.

It is important to properly read the signals when you see Leaf fans reverting to anger, threatening tactics, name calling and personal insults. The responses are essentially self protective. These fans believe they have been beaten around so badly, especially over the last few years. They have been ridiculed, trivialized and dismissed. They have been excluded from the competitive hockey debate. So, they make irrational hockey claims. They come to despise anyone who forces them to face reality.

This summer is about a grand illusion. Matthews, they tell themselves, can do better than Tavares, Stamkos or Eichel or, dare we even say, McDavid. He will instantly pull the Leafs into the playoff mix in his first year and "we will matter again."

When the reality of the situation finally settles into the thinking of Leaf fans they will revert to lashing out against others. They are unconsciously trying to inflict the humiliation they feel unto to others. They want others to know the pain that they are living every day. Leaf fans, for example, do not hate Karlsson. They just intuitively know that he causes them so much pain. It has everything to do with how much Senator fans love Karlsson. They adore his skill his speed and the fact that he is so unique and special. He laughs, he smiles and delights. He is so much like Alphie and entirely fused into our hearts. Leaf fans just want a player who is special for them, someone to love, somebody that they know they can believe in.

One last thought. Shame is always held together by a deeply held wound. You can only escape the wound by naming it, by defining and by choosing not to let it define you from the secret recesses of your own mind. I stopped feeling ashamed when I finally stopped drinking the blue and white kool aid and called out and named the pain. When I publicly let go of the Leafs, when I chose to no longer carry the burden of their failure, I became free. So, I understand their bitterness, their invective and mostly their hurt. I understand how badly they have suffered. I try not to add to that suffering by responding in kind when they become so disrespectful of others.

I think Anderson started Fri to give the new guy more time to figure out the Leafs system. Just an extra day but it seems to be why they enter with Anderson Friday. That and the fact Fridays opponent is better than Saturdays.

the point of the debate, is that the most likely playoff spot the leafs can secure is within their own division, and that the tie breaking rules should be kept in mind, and IF the leafs and the Senators end up tied in points at the end of the season, for third (in points) in the division, then perhaps head to head match-ups (wins vs losses) between the two teams, may determine which team gets third in the division.

Hey, it come come down to that, it has before, and a loss by either team tonight, might end up counting at the end of the season, in this regard.

Interesting debate, on radio yesterday, just saying.

The point is that it didn't make sense to play the new guy Friday. So far what the Leafs decided to do is working. Either way torobto is more about the process than individual games. Toronto also can easily catch Philly and Boston with their games in hand. So tonight's game isn't as make or break as you may think. A loss last night rushing the new guy doesn't do the team any good just to bulk up against a weaker team the next night.

I think the Leafs have a great shot at making the playoffs. I love ragging on Leaf fans. But I would love to see a Leaf/Sens post season match even more.

The best of hockey is when both teams are in the thick of the battle.

Nice flip flop goof. You wrote in oct how awful the leafs were, how their fans embarass themselves by "summer talk" (wtf is that) and how by dec the fans will be crying cause the scoreboard is telling them how terrible they are.

You are an absolute imbecile. A total joke. That you can even show you're face here anymore after repeated embarasments is highly telling.
