Spatso was right all along. The Leafs did need to "Blow-it-Up" and draft high. The issue is once they started doing that he pulled a 180 and said they were doing it wrong. I know you hate the Leafs, but you missed a chance to say "Told Ya So". I guess it was fun to say when the Leafs were doing the opposite of bottoming-out. He did not think they'd ever do it.
Forget about Matthews BTW..How great is the Andersen trade looking? After his crap start he's got a .936 save %.
Also, Rielly through his prime years @ 5 million and Kadri in his prime for 4.5 million. That's amazing cap management.
The Leafs are so well run right now.
That crappy ex Leaf D-Man who can't skate is a 7 million cap hit...

leafs are 4 points from passing the Bruins, and taking over their playoff spot, and have 3 games in hand on the Bruins.

I think it's time to resurrect the "Leafs can Make Playoffs:" thread?

You are a wise man. Never have said anything negative about the Shanaplan. Indeed, I strongly believe in the strategy that was adopted. I certainly endorsed the drafting of Matthews over Laine. Not really sure why I have been so entirely successful in causing havoc for the blue and white faithful.

by the things you say, talking about the standings and such, what I find truly strange is the fragility I'd Sens fans. they clearly don not have the confidence your posts seem to suggest they should.

do you?

You're certainly not saying any positives about the Shanaplan either given the rim jobs you use to give Edmonton for getting high picks.
It must kill you seeing how well the Leafs are run right now.

It must be so sad, always hoping against hope. There is probably a clinical diagnosis that is appropriate and may apply in these circumstances but I don't think it can be asserted in the context of a sporting thread. However, it does cause me to wonder if I have been unhappy for a long time or do i think this is primarily situational and the result of a specific set of definable circumstances?

Suppose we won't hear much from the koolaid gang. Not a good week for the blue and white. They are doing the anticipated December collapse and sinking in the standings and it is just started to resonate in for some of the fans.

And the leafs playoff run, is it happening ................ they're talking about it now.

Ryan Lambert

Remember, most of the time you’re going to need about 92 points to hit that last postseason spot in the current playoff format. Because of all the winning streaks, six teams are already halfway there through only about 40 percent of their schedules, so they’re at significant advantages and all but assured a playoff berth unless they collapse completely. So to once again illustrate how much of a gap to overcome even three points can be, here is every team’s current point total, along with their games remaining and the 82-game pace at which they will have to play to reach the 92-point cutoff.

Highlighted in yellow are the only teams that appear to be legitimately on the bubble.

Mehr there is a chance albeit not a big one. it was never the measuring stick for us this year. the kids have performed extremely well this year. the team is making leaps and bounds forward. playoffs would be icing. I'm not disappointed if they don't. next year I'm pretty confident they will. and not just scrape in. a divisional seed next year is likely in my opinion.

they're going to have several more rookies breaking in next year along with about 20 million in cap space. plus a few teams dumping good depth players they can't protect. it's all golden right now for the Leafs.

I don't see the Leafs mentioned at all.

Leafs have done well to get back into the conversation. There are a couple of pretender teams within reach, but it'd be a pretty insane story for such a rookie filled team to make up that difference. Still, there appears to be only one legitimate playoff threat in the division, so anything is possible.

The chart shows its possible. The reality is that it's improbable.

Not making it this year, but as of now they'll be in the mix with half a dozen teams and fade later in year as the schedule gets tougher.

So if I'm reading the leaf fans who've commented above, they'd rather see the leafs falter a little bit, and secure higher odds in the Draft lottery..... over making a real run at making the playoffs????

If so, should there be some "mild tanking" called for by the Shannaplan?
