Again, there you go with your false narrative of "win now mode" A.K.A. win the Cup this season, in order for all your "doesn't hold any water" takes on how the leafs are somehow in a better position.

The Senator management has NOT set their goal this year as "win the Cup now", they clearly stated many times now, that their goal is to make the playoffs, but you purposely refuse to acknowledge that............. because reality does NOT fit your false narrative and you can't bear to lose face I guess.

But don't take my word for it, just read what the Senators GM said back in October

As the Senators prepared to hit the ice for the first time as a team on Tuesday, GM Pierre Dorion dropped by the dressing room to address the troops and outline his expectations. The season gets underway with the Battle of Ontario against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night at the Canadian Tire Centre.

After missing the playoffs last year and then making plenty of changes — including the hiring of coach Guy Boucher and acquiring centre Derick Brassard from the New York Rangers — the Senators are determined to get back to the post-season.

Nobody is dumb enough to think the Sens are winning the cup this year or next year or 4 years from now. That said win now doesn't mean just winning the cup and that's it. Win now to try and make the playoffs also applies. Kind of common sense and semantics really.
In your defense, I'd be rattled too if my team traded youth and picks for two older players like Phaneuf and Brassard to try and win now. Or worse, trading for them to win in the future.

So this pretty much explains your strange obsession with Laine. Because you really don't care about him. The Jets. Or anything else related to Laine. What you do care about is that he's better than Matthews so that you can feel better about the unhappiness that pick has brought on you.

I love the draft. I love the young guys coming into the league and I enjoy talking about the options. I was disappointed when Leaf fans shut down discussion on this past draft by putting their fingers in their ears and saying "no discussion" Matthews is the only option. It was a declaration made way too early and as Laine rose in the draft rankings Leaf fans refused to acknowledge his high end skill.

As Laine pulls away from the others of a really strong draft group Leaf fans argue that he can't skate, he can't shoot, it is only a matter of time we discover that he not very good. Hardly a shining moment.

Prock is a (frank)ing idiot. You're right. He just trolls and doesn't contribute anything to the Leaf thread. D00ps is the same. Spatso too but to a lesser degree. None of them actually sit and discuss their teams with like minded fans. While I love to hate the Sens, sports rivalries are fun, the majority of my time in hb is spent discussing the Leafs with Leaf fans in the Lead thread.
- systemtool

Your entirely wrong. Prock surely has a personality disorder and is no doubt medicated for his anger issues, however, he does know his hockey and his research is usually pretty good. I also think of him as being one of my better friends on this thread.

You seem really unhappy. First time ever you've obsessed over a draft. Funny how this works. Depressed?

No regret taking Matthews. Every team needs a number one 1 center with size over a winger. And we already have several wingers producing. It was and still is a no brainer. You guys shouldn't have taken Brown though. Doesn't have enough skill. Another Lazar Gauthier. Kind of unfortunate Sens fans who love the draft NEVER have discussed this. And by Sens fans I mean you. Cause you love the draft only when it's convenient to troll the Leafs. In this case. I don't blame you. I'd be jealous if my teams rival snagged Matthews after scooping Marner.

I think I can help you in being more disciplined in your commentary. You need to apply some critical thinking in your approach to hockey matters. You need to reconcile obvious streams of logic. For example, how would you objectively assess the following.

1) Ottawa has dramatically reduced goals against. It is the primary reason for their strong showing in the standings.

2) Phaneuf is being given a lot of credit for helping the Senators improve in their own end.

3) Leafs are struggling in their own end.

4) Leafs are searching for a veteran defensman to help stabilize their back end.

1) They're playing a team d that sacritics offense. Coaching change did this. Not Phaneuf.

2) Falsely. He did nothing to improve Toronto's D.

3) Leafs are young. Very young. Defensive struggles will happen. They do score a ton though. Their team d didn't decline because Phaneuf left. It was an issue the whole time he was here.

4) Maybe they are. But Phaneuf proved he couldn't stabilize anything and the Leafs aren't looking for a 30 year old making too much money just to be a depth player. Leafs want a young player to grow with the team.9

5) Trading youth and picks for older players like Brassard and Phaneuf is why the Leafs have been so bad so long.

Let's see how critical you can be.

1) Phaneufs salary and cap hit can become a big problem especially on a budget team.

2) Sens have such few good young players, and with the game being so young and so fast guys like Brassard and Phaneuf will not be able to keep up soon.

3) There is more room to grow and improve with a young team than an older team. Especially if both instances resulted in a missed playoff season.

4) The Leafs are not in last in December like you said they would be.

5) With the expansion draft coming Phaneuf will likely cost the Sens a good player because of protection issues. Probably a younger player.

You want a comeback?

I'm gonna ask you some honest questions, you give me some honest responses.

last year's stanley cup champs were the Pittsburgh penguins.

their centres were Sidney Crosby and Evgeny malkin. do you think kyle (frank)ing turris somehow compares?

their wingers were Kessel, kunitz, hornqvist. do you think bobby ryan and mark stone compare?

Erik karlsson and Dion Phaneuf? I know you retards this kind that compares to let [email protected], maatta, but it doesn't.

your team is going nowhere.

They both played really well in a 2-0 win last night.

Karlsson was just sensational last night and he sort of blinds you the the other Dmen. But, over the last month Phaneuf and Ceci have played really solid.

This team is winning because they are getting strong D. Condon pitched a shut out last night. At some point we are going to need for you to put on your big boy pants and face the reality of what is. In the NHL it is called scoreboard and standings.

Come on, there's mo way you thought Phaneuf and his 7 million cap hit was good when he was on the Leafs. That just kills their cap. No way are they missing him. They had him last year and their defense looked worse up until they moved him.

That wasn't Leafs fans. That was every major scouting agency before the Leafs won the lottery. And just like every year, the media manufactured some controversy to get some more viewership from the less intellectually inclinded, who believed that suddenly the Bobby Ryans/Kyle Turrises/Jack Eichels/Patrick Laines were in the same tier as the Crosbys/Kanes/McDavids/Matthews.

And it works, especially on more rattled individuals who need some kind of ammunition against a rival that is inarguably in a better position.

After 25 games?

Also how is 3 young amazing rookies not a reality and why shouldnt the future matter?

You won't even consider the downfalls and negatives the Brassard and Phaneuf deals bring with them. Yet Leaf fans weren't critical of the first overall selection. See how this works?

Btw Matthews has more points than any Sens forward. We're happy with what we have. It's fine if you're happy with what you have. Just don't go around telling others what they should be critical of when youre not willing to make the same effort.

So now you're changing the meaning of what you've based your whole narrative on for the past couple of months?

"Win Now" only means winning the Cup.
