Nothing to worry about with Matthews

he is in good company and the goals will come in bunches

(((Corey Pronman))) ‏@coreypronman
In Matthews, Marner, Werenski and Konecny we have 4 of top 20 shot generators among 19 year olds of past 20 seasons this season.

Look I know you guys are disappointed. But, no need to take it out on us.

Many people forget that Dangle scored 25 goals in his rookie season. Perhaps Matthews will be able to recapture that first game moment.

On the other hand, maybe Laine may not be able to maintain his league leading pace.

put your money on that.

Saw this earlier ..would be something if he kept anything close to his current pace..

Auston is shooting from higher danger areas too. This is going to flip something fierce, and soon

If Matthews had Laine's sh% he'd have 15 goals. If Laine had Matthews', he'd have 5

Jeff Veillette ‏@JeffVeillette
For a guy who gets compared to Ovechkin a lot, Patrik Laine is currently taking about half as many shots per game as Ovy did as a rookie.

Jeff Veillette ‏@JeffVeillette
This is why his 24% is more concerning than most hot streaks. He doesn't shot often and he shoots from afar. It makes zero sense.

Jeff Veillette ‏@JeffVeillette
Also another reason I think Kovalchuk is the more fitting comparable; he still shot more than Laine is doing, but not to Ovy's extreme.

Jeff Veillette ‏@JeffVeillette
3.77. He'll usually outperform ixG throughout his career, his talent level and shot is there, but right now he's over tripling it.

Jeff Veillette added,

I don't watch much of the Leafs. Sometime when I flip over it appears to me that Marner is playing very strongly. I don't see much about Matt Hues.

his whole line is going... but you have to factor in they are getting cushy matchups...not getting the tough minutes.

It usually is that way in the first cycle. But moving from junior to third line minutes is a huge leap up. Lots of great juniors never make the jump because of the speed and physical difference. I believe the jump from junior to third line minutes involves a bigger jump from 3rd line to 1st line even though you go against tougher match ups.
Marner looks very good.

Playing with two vets with easier minutes. He's in the best position to succeed offensively. Still a beast though.

Their shooting %'s will return to the norm before the end of the season. Stamkos is pretty much the biggest freak in the modern era in terms of shooting % and he's a career 17% shooter. He's yet to break the 20% mark in a 50+ game season.

Excellent.

Watch for Laine's shooting percentage to decline. But, also look for the number of shots he takes to increase significantly. He has a great release.

Does Laine wear a Sens Jersey or are the Jets your most recent team swap?

How is he going to increase his volume of shots? He doesn't have the wheels to generate extra chances by himself and he already shoots every time he gets the puck.

At 19 minutes per game average I don't think he can take on much extra ice time either.

Zibanejad 13 points.

Brassard 6 points.

Why don't Sens fans talk about this more.

I don't think you can do that though. The Matthews line still consistently keeps the puck in the offensive end for entire shifts. Give them easier matchups and it'd be seriously bad news for the opposition. The Bozak line has more of a counter attack style offense going on, probably easier to defend against overall even if they are putting up monster numbers.

My goodness, it is anachronistic that you should find the irrelevant and yet spend so much time comparing the to the Leafs that are giving up 3.50 goals per game.

Head to head it sure did not look like it. Check the stats.

Head to head Kadri was better than McDavid. I'm probably in the minority across NHL fans, but I'd rather McDavid on my team.

You too? (frank) this Leaf poop man. Should have taken Laine even though I agree Matthews was the right choice. So sick of this. Honestly I'm within a female genitalia hair of ordering my Seth Jones jersey and following a real team. No more of this battling for 9th mediocrity for me. Enough is enough. Or should I say Phaneuf is enough. I'm done chearing for a team that thinks Phaneuf is the solution. Blue Jackets baby. Time to cheer for a winner.

But the Atantic division is starting to take shape.

Mtl will come back down to earth, but all things being equal, they are a +100 point team.

Unless ottawa makes some significant additions, their record is unsustainable and has been on the back of anderson’s inspired play. Bos, tb and fla will all pass the sens. Sens and leafs will hold down the next couple spots.

Det and buff bringing up the rear.

So why not trade tooris and karlssen to teams that have legitimate chances to win the cup, and get back a lot of key pieces for the future?

- Tumbleweed

Detroit looks much better than I expected. I think they finish ahead of the Sens and both ahead of the Leafs.

... unless the Leaf get D help

Seriously, does anybody else out there wonder if the Leafs made the right pick?

If two players are equal always take the bigger guy, if they are the same size take the centre, if their both centres take the younger of the two. In this case Laine is not a centre so you would think the Leafs should be on pretty safe ground in defending their pick.

But, Laine has scored some fabulous goals....he scored again last night.

- spatso

Laine = Winger with Wheeler and Schiefele, both all-star candidates.

Matthews = Center, getting 1st line attention from other teams, with two rookie wingers, who has hit more posts and crossbars lately than Laine has goals. He is probably in a 10 game stretch that will be as bad as it gets for most of his career.

and yet, is somehow still among the rookie leaders.
