He's just rattled.

The funny thing is, many have been yapping "yeah, you'll just end up like Edmonton" until recently.

I suspect all that means is the fan base gets ahead of the development curve and presses prematurely for better team results.

Other than for the screw up on Laine the Leafs are making great moves. But, it is not helpful when the Hockey News and other Toronto based voices insist the Leafs are playoff ready.it takes time before it gets better.

But, I would still argue that Matthews was the right pick for the Leafs. Every team needs a #1 centre, a horse that can control play down the middle. Matthews does this for Leafs.

Last year Ottawa had a GA average of 2.94, 26th best in NHL. So far this year they are 2.34, 8th best overall. Phaneuf has been a tremendous asset for Ottawa. Playing behind Karlsson on the second pairing, Phaneuf has been a key factor in the overall improvement. He has been great for Ottawa so far.

The Leafs have gone from 2.93 GA last year (24th) to 3.60 (28th) this year. They are missing something! Do you not think the Leafs would benefit from having a veteran presence on their back end?

It's gonna be hilarious to hear all the excuses from leaf fans when the team doesn't end up being the dynasty that most fans are expecting it to be.

Dynasty? Where the (frank) did you hear that?

You keep changing your mind on Laine vs Matthews. It's confusing

Absolutely. Just not a poop one like Dion. You know, the same Dion all Sens fans ridiculed for being a terrible player.

Do you already forget. My issue was not against Matthews. I still think he is a good pick. My issue was that nobody was prepared to discuss the draft. There is nothing worse than a closed mind. Both the fans and, more important, Leaf management refused to consider a change to Laine. He was spectacular at the World Juniors, in the Finnish playoffs and at the World Championships.

Somebody may have screwed up. It is unfortunate.

Dion is the kind of player other teams and fans seem to hate. He has been very good for Ottawa. Karlsson is playing the best hockey of his career and Dion has clearly taken a lot of the weight from his shoulders.

Everybody on both sides of the trade appear to be happy. Perhaps it was just a good hockey trade for everyone.

This doesn't make any sense. You think Matthews is the right pick, but your issue is no one spoke about Laine.

I can tell you on good authority, the Leafs management spoke about Laine a lot. Had in depth discussions about him at the highest level. They decided to go Matthews though. Does that solve your issue?

But, I would still argue that Matthews was the right pick for the Leafs. Every team needs a #1 centre, a horse that can control play down the middle. Matthews does this for Leafs. Winnipeg already has their #1 horse with Schiefle who is leading the league in scoring. And, Laine already has the right fit in the middle in Winnipeg.

Every year we debate the draft. It is a fun time. Tyler or Taylor, as strange as it sounds now we even speculated that Eichle might be better than McDavid. It was good fun and everyone gets to better understand all the prospects.

I thought Matthews was the tight pick for the Leafs because he was a center. But as Laine started taking over the stage, especially the World Championships, I was certain that he should be ar least considered. I thought it was strange when all the Leaf fans and media piled on and said it was non negotiable, not even up for discussion.

Now, I think, maybe everybody has messed up. Laine is the best pure scorer to come into the league since Stamkos, he might even be better. It is sad we never got a chance to debate it before the draft.

Not really. Because everybody shut down discussion...nobody has been asked and more important, nobody has explained why .

17 goals on 253 shots in Finland last year, 11 goals on 46 shots this year. He's just that good. Expect him to bump his shooting % up to 30% as he learns the NHL game even more. Best goal scorer of all-time.

There's no correlation between fans/media and the Leafs management team made up of Shanahan, Lou, Kyle and Mike.

Fans/media didn't discuss a Phaneuf trade to Ottawa either, and then boom, Dion was moved.

But yeah I think goalie mortal combat shots are actual shots on net, so he had 134 goalie mortal combat shots on goal. Doubling his shooting % from the Liiga to the NHL sounds legit. Totally sustainable.
