Can we ask why no one is saying laine won it? I'm not saying he should have, just wondering why no one is talking about why he didn't....

It's funny because, there is nothing spazzo or doppeldouche can say to break the enthusiasm we have on this team. And the youth they have is the envy of most teams in the league.

And then we look across at the Sens, and they really have nothing to be excited about, or look forward to either.

And they damn well know it.

I don't think I've posted anything negative, this season, to disparage these rookies, in fact I've pointed out that Spatso was wrong, in my opinion, about his assessment on who the leafs should have selected.

The only time I've seen the leafs play, is when they were beaten by Ottawa...... so other than how Matthews played, I would comment on how any of the other leafs have fared this season ......... with the possible exception of Andersen, as he's been featured on the sports networks highlight packages, when other teams have scored on him.

No, no I don't, actually. I think you're referring to this post.

If you're trying to focus on the second half of the bolded sentence, in no way does that imply that they're being used as a write down in personal taxes.

If that's what you're thinking, you forget that many in this country, including myself, own "small businesses". As someone who consults, with my own personal consulting firm, I can most certainly purchases tickets, and use them as an expense in my business, when I take clients or other business contacts.

You make friends at work, that's normal (for most of us spazzo). Often you have friends that end up working in the same industry. I have a few. If I go to a game with one of them, and talk a few minutes of business, I can use those as an expense in my company. They can do the same with me.

I've been given tickets to games many times, and I can also take whoever I want. If another company gives those tickets to me as a gift, they can write that off. Either way, I get a fair number of tickets I don't pay for. I get a fair number of tickets that no single individual pays for. I'd say that's the majority of the way tickets are handed out, and that's what I was referring to in the first half of the bolded sentence.

In the end, those are all ending up on the expense side of an income statement, whether you'd like to think so or not.

The main point of the statement was that, it's a stupid comment from Dopps - "look at how much Leaf fans pay for tickets", along with the other Leaf jab so many love to toss out - "it's all sushi-eating suits at Leaf games". Put those two together, and you've got a bit of a problem with what you're saying. Because everyone here knows the "suits" are not paying for their tickets.

I am okay with your statement and I think it was someone else that said the cost of tickets was deducted directly from tax payable.

From a business perspective, hockey tickets are a great promotional device and I really don't think that business abuses the privilege. I know companies that will not give tickets to employees because the tickets are so important as a door opener for sales staff.

Expenses do directly reduce profits, which in turn reduce corporate taxes paid. A $200 ticket purchased, ignoring any revenues generated from it, leads to a $50 reduction in taxes paid by that corporation. The Canadian corporate tax rate is a flat 25% on profits.

They revived the old franchise, as it was laying dormant, and brought it back to life, their banners hang in the CTC rafters.

Guess those 7 saves he made as a pen were worth something.

In all honesty, it doesn't really surprise me that the Sens are in a borderline playoff position. The fact that they've won a few games that they've been outplayed, and are in a borderline playoff spot, is nothing to be proud of.

I suspect they'll float around there for the next month, but then plummet down and be nowhere near, by approximately the allstar break.

Schedule by month.
October
Toronto, Montreal, Detroit, Arizona, Tampa, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton
I count 6 games against teams that weren't really expected to make the playoffs by most out of 8. Granted, Edmonton is on fire (and I DID expect them to make it), but otherwise, that's a pretty easy schedule.

November
Carolina, Vancouver, Buffalo, Nashville, Buffalo, LA, Minny, Philly, Nashville, Florida, Montreal, Boston, Carolina, New York, Buffalo.

Another 8 games out of 15 against likely non-playoff teams, 4 against bordliners, and really just 3 against surefire playoff teams.

December
Philly, Florida, Pittsburgh, San Jose, LA, Anaheim, San Jose, New Jersey, New York, Chicago, Anaheim, New York, Detroit.
14 games, really only 4 against teams that are not expected to be playoff bound. It also includes a nasty west coast road trip. that's a brutal month, to compensate for an easy October and November.

January
Washington, Washington, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Leafs, St Louis, Columbus, Leafs, Columbus, Washington, Calgary, Florida.
Another month where more than half the games are against top teams. 7 of the 12 games are against teams that are expected to take a divisional seed.

The rest of the months are a mixed bag IMO.

But if the Sens aren't riding an extremely high pts% by the time December starts, those two months could render them out of the playoff race by the all-star break.

Phaneuf has 41.38 CF%, -8.44 RelCF%, and 2 points on the season. 5 years x 7M including this one. Lou's hiring was worth it for that alone.

Ryan ‏@ryanfancey
I think Phaneuf might be an AHLer. And probably not even a good one.

Platinum Seat Ghosts ‏@3rdPeriodSuits
@ryanfancey Not sure I'd go that far yet. Definitely closer to a 6 than a 3 though. He's playing with Ceci who drags everyone down.

But you can say the same thing about any expense. Hockey tickets get you sales and revenues than a lot of other expenses. A lot of sales get made as a direct result of using a hockey ticket to open a door.
