Just goes to show LITTLE you know about the Senators current and former prospects.

David Rundblad played in 2 WJHCs, and those 12 games over two years were his only exposure to playing on NA sized ice prior to participating in the rookie tournament this past fall. So he may have a grand total of LESS THAN 40 games on NA sized ice.

His 24 games he played for the Senators were this season, were his first pro games on NA sized ice and last year he played in Sweden.

He did not show anything that suggested he was ready for a full time NHL roster spot. I said (in another thread) that he needed to go to the AHL for at least a season.

So far the Coyotes have only played him in one game.

Not ready thats obvious....but should be a good one

I was at this game sitting right about where Runblad started the pass..it was painful

He's got some holes in his game, no doubt. But he's got high end skill. Without a shadow of a doubt, he's got higher end potential than Kyle Turris.

Honestly, the Bozak comparison is such a great one. So many similarities.

Oh I agree that he looks to have the potential to be a legitimate NHL caliber puck moving D man, but not anytime soon. For every good pass he made, he coughed up the puck three times.

Check out the second Ranger goal here for one example.

He needs to develop in the AHL.

6 points in 8 games and +6 for Turris. I didn't like the trade, but if he can keep that pace, its not as bad of a deal for the sens.

Yep ,he looks like a young player starting to put it together. Our team has lost once since he was made the second line center.Half of his points are game winning points,he has had a very good impact on our team.

The trade was a shock, and it would be too early to declare a winner, but ottawa could still come out pretty good here .We got a young nhl center with some nice upside for two players that are not in the NHL or at least should,nt be this season

sure something like that ... I said is a while ago, Turris is similar to Bozak in what you get... and BB didnt have to give up Kadri and a 2nd to get him...
- senstroll
You say that ,but is KT not younger with more room to grow ?? .Watch him play in ottawa he has been good .And we didnt give up the 7th overall pick to get him we gave up a 17th overall pick, and a second .Stop trying to make it sound like we morgaged our entire future to get a busted pick ,when really nobody know,s for certain how any of these players will turn out in the long run

No one is ignoring that he has room to grow. If he does grow, he may make it up to Bozak's level in a couple of years.

Ottawa gave up a Top 10 ranked prospect overall period. #7 to be exact not the 17th overall draft pick. To be clear thats what he was ranked in Oct when compared to all prospects for NHL teams. You cant continue to quote the same value for something when it has changed in a year.

I am not saying the future was mortgaged (find a quote of me saying that). I am saying they moved a valuable asset and prospect with what a lot of experts say has a very high upside for a player who has to this date underachieved based on where 1 team picked him.

I am saying I think the proper way to rebuild is to keep your young assets and not rush it. I think BM is trying to speed up the turnaround of the sens, good for the next couple seasons, but a better future longterm if you keep the more valuable assets and the pick you gave up.

You dont agree and Love the moves BM has made, like I said thats great, but I am skeptical from the years of throwing away young players and picks for quicker results. And before you say it again, I know KT is 22

Enough with the Bozac comparision,s please ,KT and him played on the same bchl team thats about it, KT scored more than Bozac did as a 17 year old in that league did he not??

Bozac has worked himself into a Todd White type player ,and that,s good but how about we see what KT has done in the nhl when he is the same age as bozac.

Young players are young players, whether you draft them or move out a pick to aquire them ,the only thing BM has pushed the pace of is the developmental stage of these young players.

When we made the trade to aquire DR ,did BM not state that not only did he like this player but he also liked the fact that he was also a year ahead in his developmental cycle, therefore ottawa would be gaining a younger player quicker.

KT is exactly in the same boat here,he is looking better and better every time he gets on the ice for us.Whereas DR has hit a wall in his development at the NA level as of right now .

And about the squandering of pick,s everytime BM has moved out a pick he tends to either aquire another by moving out a vet or signing a highly touted college level player to augment the loss of set overall pick.

If you look deeper into what BM has been doing you would see that he has keen eye for young tallent and often comes up with gems in the later rounds. His scouting at the pro level needs some work but there is no denying his eye for youth .Just ask Your second leading scorer in Lupal

Why? It's such a great comparison. Played in similar leagues in the same years, scoring similar amounts, similar type players, similar size and stature, speed, skill. Now that they're in the NHL, Bozak still that much ahead. Yeah, Bozak is a little older, that's why we can give Turris the benefit of the doubt, and say that in a couple of years, if Turris can develop further, he can end up the Sens version of Bozak.

See, this is why you're hard to take seriously... Claiming a player has hit a wall in terms of North American development, after 3 months, is insane. You're clearly trying to justify a terrible trade.

Have you watched DR play on NA ice ,the the couple of highlight reel play,s are nice ,but the other 95% he was lost, gave up the puck at a very alarming rate .In fact our defense is way better without having him on it.

Even routine play,s became an adventure with him,so when i say he hit a wall he hit one .Now this isnt to say he wont develop over time but as of right now he need,s at least a full year in the AHL .Add to this the speculation that he didnt want to go to the ahl, but much rather go back to sweden. Makes me ponder if he has the overall drive to realise his truly special tallents

This a I agree with, and DR is a prime example of that, I know far too much about BM and the sens than I like to admit, I listen to talk radio here in Ottawa between 5 and 10 hours a week, deal with sens fans daily

This is how I see what BM did with Runblad, he bought Low (trading a 17th pick for a year older 16th pick), his investment grew, and probably a lot more than everyone expected. He then traded what he had for the value it was worth when he acquired it, and included a 2nd, not what it was worth today.

thats just my opinion on it.

The Kaberle and Beuchemin trades to me are the ultimate sell high scenarios... hold out for a lot more, if BM made it known he might be willing to deal DR, the value could have been better coming back

If you read my post above the last line might be another reason for the move,Bm did make that move and everybody was pissed over him passing over tesarenko, but when you look back on it wow .Same thing with EK ,when he traded up for some pip squeak defender ottawa fans where not pleased

Giving one way deals to condra and greening getting laughed at for that one .Finding our 12 goal scoring third line center in the third round ,drafing a huge defender with a blown knee ,and watching him develop into a 25+ min top pairing defender.

So yeah its pretty easy to be a fan of BM really

First of all, I'd like to see the list of " young players and picks " that Murray has "thrown away".

Then I'd like to see the list of players or picks received in return, to see how they compare.

Secondly, I'd also like to take you to task on your statement " the proper way to rebuild is to keep your young assets and not rush it."

How can you as a leaf fan say that, and then not keep a straight face? WHEN has ANY GM in toronto ever done that?

I'll answer that question, NEVER.

So your argument comes from week ground my friend, because I've never heard many leaf fans here take any leaf GM to task for, to use YOUR words, "the proper way to rebuild is to keep your young assets and not rush it."

Thirdly I could list a number of trades made by leaf GMs over the decades that fall into your category of, again to use YOUR words, "for quicker results". Don't you remember why the term "Retirement Contract" came into the NHL vernacular?

Yeah, it was a terrible trade for the Portland Pirates of the AHL, they have a "Defenseman" who after 27 games is sporting a MINUS 18 rating.

Rundblad has now had three chances to make the roster of an NHL team, and perhaps his inability to adapt to the North American game after 57 games is what is holding him back from making the NHL.

He has one more year on his contract, and perhaps he can crack the Nordiques line up next September.

It's foolish to give up on Rundblad this early - THIS season is a write-off, based on the 3 year plan. When the entire team is ready to compete, not just make the playoffs, THAT'S when we can compare the value to the team of Rundblad vs. Turris. I don't care of DR is -70 this year...

So we'll see how Turris develops as a center and see if he has more value in the future than Rundblad would have. I was really excited about seeing what DR could become, but I'm liking the early returns from Turris. Keep it up and we should be just fine with the deal...

I would suggest that the AHL teams are a reflection on who may have a better group of prospects (at all positions) if you are comparing the two teams in Ontario.
