Problem is you guys just don't understand how potent Karlsson is when combined with other players. My guess is that Brassard's numbers go up playing on the power play with Karlsson and Zibanejad's number decline. I like big players and I am not that happy giving up the big body. But Ottawa is a better hockey team today and their power play just improved a lot.

The old leaf model of building a team. Phaneuf and youth plus picks for vets.

Too bad their goaltending is junk.

Talking trash about Sens is not going to make it any easier for the Leafs this year. But you guys are once again having a great summer.

I'd rather get Matthews for nothing than trade zibanijad AND a 2nd for brassard. Or you could follow another Leaf model. Add Phaneuf and call it a steal.

Weather is subjective ............ Sure Vancouver does not get the Snow and cold temps that Ottawa does......... but they don't have anything like skating on the Rideau canal either. They get a LOT of rain, while Ottawa does not ........... but Ottawa has humidity that Vancouver would not want.
- D0PPELGANGER

It's not subjective at all. If people in Vancouver want to enjoy winter activities they only have to drive a couple of hours....if that.

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/...l01/cst01/phys08a-eng.htm

See this table above? Vancouver gets about 250 more mm of precipitation a year more than Ottawa, all of that probably falls in November.

How often do you golf in January? February?

Ottawa is a nice city and all but there's a reason Vancouver is consistently top 5 in world rankings for most desirable cities to live in.

I used to go to Ontario from Vancouver for summer vacation sometimes, and it was by far the most rain we'd see all season. So yeah, while you're out shovelling snow the poor bastards in Vancouver have to wear a rain coat.

Understanding and observing projection is relatively simple. When someone is adamant about wanting another person to own a feeling or a behaviour, merely observe the pattern. If, for example, a person is strongly polarized in their views on homosexuality and are intent on identifying people with unresolved sexual identity issues it is likely a statement about their own uncertainty or lack of comfort with their own sexual self. So, for example, the preacher who is always lashing out about the evils of same sex marriage may, in fact, regularly act out (escape) in same sex encounters. His weekly rants (sermons) can be understood as being a reflection of a deeply embedded rejection of his own sexual self.

Now, so tell us again, about all these angry Sens fans. And, perhaps, you might also like to share with us your psycho sexual history in order that we can better understand the underlying sentiment behind your hostile reactions to others.

Yes, I think that is the part that really needs a better understanding. This year the US junior team will have three very strong centres including Colin White who is scheduled to captain the team, Keller and Logan Brown who will make the US a force at this year's tournament.

I think both Chabot and Englund get serious ice time with the Senators this year and if Chabot does play for team Canada I assume he will wear a letter and play 1D for them.

Given the depth of Ottawa roster players that are available to play center and the number of really good prospects in the system, nobody should be surprised that Zibanejad was moved.

I assume this deal was the backup plan to a deal with Denver for Matt Duschene.

Way too rich, the irony only gets better after some reflection.

The Leafs were a last place team. The Leafs are a last place team.

Matthews is not McDavid or Eichal or perhaps, even Laine or Puljujarvi. Yet Leaf fans have created this huge expectation around a kid that was not nearly the force of the Finns on the big stages of international hockey last year.

Not sure why the Leafs have delayed in signing him to a contract. Perhaps they think he is going to need some AHL development time. Nobody is hoping against Matthews, he should be a good player. But, there is absolutely nothing in his track record that suggests he will be an impact player in the NHL next year. Perhaps, there is a fatal flaw in the Leaf charism. If Matthews is put out head to head against veteran NHL centres every night and fans expect him to outperform all comers it is going to be a very long and disappointing winter for the blue and white.

I understand the importance of the summer season for Leaf fans. It is an opportunity to renew hope and create a bond with the team in the belief that next year will see the Leafs finally triumph. It is the Oiler model of a few years ago that had Yakupov (like Matthews, an older profile draft pick) dominating scoring in future NHL seasons or RNH being the slickest centre to come along in years.

Always keep in mind the notion that "we are different," is something that is really well understood. We know Matthews is not McDavid, not even close. We want to believe that he is better than Yakupov. Likely he is in the same range as RNH, but he will likely struggle to produce numbers as good as RNH got in his rookie year (18 goals, 34 assists in 64 games).

Sweeney is a clown and Neely thinks it's 1985. Doesn't change the fact the Sens are entering a free fall from mediocrity to downright basement dwelling simply because their owner couldn't care less about anything except using the franchise and their fans as an atm.

Good luck!

Ottawa is better this morning than what they were this time yesterday. Most important, they have dramatically improved the pieces on their power play. Ottawa has three strong centres in their prospect system (Nick Paul, Colin White and Logan Brown). Both Paul and Brown are big bodies. Ottawa is confident of having lots of options three years out. Not sure people understand this team is being massaged entirely around Karlsson and his unique skill set. Brossard offers a playmaking ability and is a left handed shot that is desperately needed to improve the power play.

Boucher (new coach) is thought of as a great power play coach. It was clear when Turris was injured last year that Zibanejad was not a playmaker and the power play was choked off by teams being able to concentrate entirely on Karlsson. Nobody else had the puck management skills to see or hit the open man. Ottawa has some very good goal scorers (top 10 in the league). Turris is a very strong play maker. A second good puck handler like Brossard is going to help them significantly improve on their puck possession numbers.

The exact opposite. Ottawa is top 10 in scoring because of Karlsson, a statistical reality. Karlsson has phenomenal puck possession numbers but the team as a whole is poor. Ottawa needs another Turris type centre that can provide play making support. Dorion thinks the team is better today because of the deal.
Better for puck possession.
Better on power play.
Added left handed shot.
We will see.

Karlsson is the reason your below average team doesn't look like a terrible team.
