oh.. Who are the forwards?
- senstroll

Take a look at the Senators roster, see who would be playing in the top six, if everyone was healthy, not that hard to figure out.

Yes. The collection of 2nd liners missing from your first line is definitely the problem.

Glad you agree that the injuries to a number of the Senators top six forwards have not helped the Senators.

The replacements, from the bottom six, that have moved up in the line, are not able to adequately fill their new roles.

MacArthur & Michalek are veterans who are missed, and now Turris as well, who had been playing injured for a bout 15 games before he was taken out of the line up.

Phillips not so much, but his leadership role is not being filled. Injuries are a part of the games, and the depth is not there in these key positions, while the team is in a re-build and the set back of Spezza asking to be moved......... the players received in return have not added anything to the NHL roster yet.

When the leafs beat the Sens on Saturday, that will probably tip the scale into seller mode, rather than buyer mode.

You may of may not know that both Ryan and Turris played a number of games while injured, and their performance showed it. Turris was injured his leg vs the Islanders (I think) and played 15 more games before sitting out, and Ryan had issues with a broken finger. Michalek & MacArthur are both top six forwards, and also play a lot on the PK, so their absence has been negative to the team.

The Call ups, and the bottom six players who have moved up in the line up have not been up to the task, except for Jean-Gabriel Pageau & Zack Smith who both have excelled in the Face off Circle.

Call it whining, or whatever, it's the reality of the current situation, but when so much veteran leadership (Include Phillips) is missing on a regular basis, it is not a positive for the team, it's a negative, and it's showing.............. just watch for your self tonight when the leafs hammer the Sens with a minimum of 6 goals.

So the loss of JVR, Robidas and Bozak for most of the game last nigh had an impact on the play of the team.

That makes sense.

I remember the loss of Bernier last season was part of the reason the leafs plummeted down the standings after his injury................ one could almost say that the Habs are not the same team without Price................. But perhaps not you as you seem to think that the loss of starting players from a teams game day roster makes zero difference as to how the team performs, right?

January 19 @ 3:09 PM ET (Page 220) last season

Carlyle, who was the problem last year, too.

Bernier's injury wasn't the sole reason the Leafs ranked, it was the straw that broke the camel's back.

- Feeling Glucky?

Don't worry, the leafs still have two games in hand, and Ottawa had it's one good game in five.

Oh, so you agree that the Leafs should have been a playoff team then?

I guess they've been in a better position all along then, eh?

If Bernier did not get injured, and he maintained his level of play for the remainder of the season, there's no reason to deny that the leafs, led by Kessel, Clarkson and Bernier would have made the playoffs. And they probably would have had home ice in the first round.

Im not sure.. Its great that he jumped ship to the sens because they were a team doing it right and had a great prospect pool and was on track to be a contender.

the leafs are going to be the team he thought the sens were....traitors not allowed back though

- senstroll

This is true. The Leafs are doing exactly what he said they should do but can't comment on it because he's picked a team that fights for 9th and has the cheapest owner in the NHL.

Glad we agree that multiple games missed due to injury, of one or more "starters" does affect the teams overall performance.

Ottawa does not have the depth to fill missing "top six" forwards this season, especially those who are also "first unit" Special teams personal.

There are some fans who constancy criticize players who are forced to move up in the line up, to fill in for injured players, but never take the fact that they're not ready for that particular role just yet.

It will be interesting to see what happens in toronto when they jettison the impending UFAs that they deem expendable, and how they fill in those roster positions. Call ups from the AHL may want to show their stuff and might contribute to more wins than tankers want, and if they cannot contribute, then that's another story.

excuses
and veteran leadership accounts for maybe 0.0 wins per year...Phillips, Robidas help the teams by being out of the lineup more than playing

Sens won, Leafs Tank still going

So you're suggesting that taking Veterans out of the line, moving inexperienced players up in the lineup to roles they're not accustomed to playing, including Special Teams, has zero effect on the performance on the team as a whole?

im saying Phillips and Robidas suck, cant play in the NHL and hurt the team when in the lineup.

they cant veteran leadership thier teams to any more wins than a replacement call up.

So if Phaneuf was injured, and a call up from the AHL was inserted into the line up, he would know his (New) teammates as well as Phaneauf (instant chemistry), and knows the opposition players, and their tendencies just as well as Phaneauf.

Yeah, no difference there .................... even if the call up plays bottom pairing, he's not keeping the overall effect of Phaneaufs' absence on the same level as if he were still in the lineup ............ even you could figure that out.
