Leafs Better

http://www.thestar.com/sp...-are-leading-the-ahl.html

Marlies were down 4-2 and came back to win on a nice OT goal by Leipsic

From my understanding, this thread is about the leafs situation vs the Senators situation.

So you understand it as a complete organization status and projected (subjective) future status of the NHL team at some point.

The creator of this thread asked "Who's in a better spot right now? " so right now I see the Senators in the better spot, a better spot than the leafs.

So your argument now is that the point of the thread is who is in a better position for this season, not overall as an organization going forward?

How many (frank)ing pages has this poop gone on for just to debate the standings????

He used Binghamton vets success in the past to justify the Sens being better.

came back within two, but was not going to be after the first period.

And the scheduler maker(s) really did the Sens a favour, as last nights' game was the last of their longest road trip of the season, and the first of three in four nights, begining with the Islanders who've not played in four days and were sitting in Ottawa watching the Sens get hammered in the first period.

I'm not expecting much tonight.

Just as you are with the marlies.

Oh, those "vets" who went on to win the Calder Cup included Mike Hoffman, Patrick Wiercioch, Zack Smith, Jared Cowen, Mark Borowiecki, plus Erik Condra, Eric Gryba & Robin Lehner.

Vets indeed.

kadri, colborne, gardiner, gustavsson, reimer. that in a year where everyone knew they had a mediocre prospect pool. so basically it's reimer, kadri, and top 5 in the league dman gardiner vs hoffman and weircioch

Yea, they won, but they weren't the big contributors. The team's top players were in their mid-20s... so the team's success wasn't an indication of the prospect pool, as we're seeing now that they've graduated to the NHL and are a part of that nightmare of a team.

The Marlies, on the other hand, are being lead by a player who isn't even in his 20s yet.

The only two guys who were in Binghamton's top-5 who weren't mid-20s were Obrien and Daugauvins. Leading scorer was Corey Locke.

Two steps forward, one step back.......... progressing slower than most would like, but nevertheless moving forward. Not making the playoffs this season, would be a good prediction.

Wait for a few years, your beloved leafs will stumble on their re-building path, as do all teams .............. Chicago had a few set backs, but the wait was worth it.

Difference between Ottawa and Chicago is Chicago had three elite building blocks.

Ottawa has one borderline one.

The Calder Cup is won in the Playoffs, take a look at how many playoff games, future Senator NHLers, or have been traded for assets, played in the playoffs.

Erik Condra 23
Zack Smith 23
Colin Greening 23
Mark Borowiecki 21
Robin Lehner 19
Mike Hoffman 19
Patrick Wiercioch 15
Eric Gryba 10

there were others that did not work out to benefit Ottawa (via trade) as well.

Chicago also won the draft lottery in 2007, and picked first overall, Patrick Kane, who turned out to be a pretty good player, as did Chicago's third overall pick the year (2006) before, their current Captain.

The highest Ottawa has picked in the past 10 drafts was 6th, because they have this knack of making the playoffs.

So Ottawa also traded for the guy selected after Sidney Crosby, and they also have a two time Norris winner as their elite building blocks .............. do the leafs have any?
