Yeah but he's a back up. At least, that's the way he plays.

Don't think the leafs have signed him yet, and they have filed for arbitration with him.

If some of the rumours are true, the leafs management is hoping another team tenders him an offer sheet, so they can let him go, and take the compensation.

And hurting the local Hot Dog industry in toronto..........

By Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun

First posted: Wednesday, July 01, 2015

The hot dog vendor who parks daily at Front and John Sts. just lost his most reliable customer.

Almost every afternoon at 2:30 p.m., often wearing a toque, Phil Kessel would wander from his neighbourhood condominium to consume his daily snack.

And now he’s gone.

Neither player lasted very long with the Bruins... And they didn't really get much return on them when all is said and done.

Edit: Spezza got a return?

Kessel, when all is said and done, got two firsts and a second. Kapanen was Pittsburgh's top forward prospect, Harrington their second ranked dman.

- Schenn-Sational!

if you look at it that way, then it wasn't just kessel.......you gave up kessel and 2 1st's (both prospects you gave up were mid 1st rd picks)

Will not be able to get one leaf fan to agree that trading away picks (Seguin & Hamilton) for Kessel was a bad deal for leafs, even now seeing what little they received in return for Kessel once they got rid of him.

Guess all the rumours about him in Boston were true, as he did end up being a divisive player in the locker room in toronto too.

But then you'll never hear a leaf fan admit that there (now in hindsight) was there was some merit to those Boston rumours, after all.

really??

i find it's just the opposite.....most leaf fans that i know, in hindsight, feel that was a terrible deal for the leafs. at the time most felt it was good, but definitely not after they saw the players boston got. it's even worse now, that he was traded away for a relatively poor return (and salary had to be eaten).

i think only the very dumb, homer fans will stubornly say that deal worked out in toronto's favour.

Has nothing to do with the first part of your comment..... If by that logic, then the Kessel deal was massive failure for Boston as well.

Ron Wilson said so, as did Randy Carlyle, Roman Polak & Carl Gunnerson

Ron Wilson "I think you can win with Phil Kessel,” he said. “He shows obvious signs of brilliance throughout the year. But Phil’s problem, and I think it’s pretty much the way Phil’s been his whole career, he’s two weeks on and two weeks off. … You can’t rely on Phil. It’s just the way it is.

“He comes and goes, and he gets emotional, and he lets that affect his game and his relationship with other players. But that’s just the nature of the beast. That’s what you have to coach. You have to know that Phil’s gonna give you everything he’s got for two or three weeks, and then for the next two or three weeks, everything seems to go wrong for Phil. That’s just the way it is.”

Roman Polak “Because it’s hard work. It’s always tough to do something you know you don’t like to do. I think we have lots of guys that just want to play offence.”

So answer this question with the benefit of hindsight........"the trade to acquire Kessel was good for the leafs organization, yes or no?

i think the_cause2000 said it perfectly. The trade itself was not that bad when it was made. It looked like those picks were going to be middle round picks. Unfortunately the leafs fell apart and they turned out to be high picks.

but i guess its better to ignore this so you can advance your anti-leafs agenda

No, if you look at it inteligently, Biggs is a bust and Erixon was a waiver pick up... Both Pittsburg prospects were highly regarded as of a minute before the trade went down.

Leafs got more for Kessel than Ottawa got for Heatly, Spezza, and Alfredsson, combined.
