Actually got to watch Pastmak live last week.

Just pointing out that there were high expectations for other Swedes, before they'd even played a game in the NHL, Rundblad came to mind, and there was Fabian Burnsham(?) or something like that..........

Point is, don't anoint Nylander the next messiah until you see him play at the NHL level.

- Doppleganger

and again... none of those guys put up the numbers Nylander put up at 18. Most weren't even in the swedish elite league at that age.

I'm not annointing him as the next messiah. We've just been saying he's better than any Ottawa prospect. Which isn't much of a feat.

you should probably wait until he is a 25 year old rookie before puffing out your chest

Leopards don't change their spots. the leafs will rush him into their line up next year, and the expectations will be sky high. He'll not be able to live up to them, and by the time he's 25, leaf fans will be calling for him to be traded.

So then he's not all that good then, using you criteria.

Would you rank him above other 18 year olds?

Like Sam Bennett, Leon Draisaitl, Travis Sanheim, MIchael Dal Colle or Dylan Larkin all whom are (I think are still) 18?

It's a good thing organizations aren't leopards, and people aren't spots.

Offensively he certainly appears to be ahead of some of those guys, yes.

What criteria did I post that show him as not being very good?

Well TSNs Craig Button posted this article, I don't know the date, but has him ranked below these other 18 year old NHL-affiliated prospects , but certainly higher than any Sens young prospect as they're further along in their re-build and their prospects have graduated tot he NHL level.

Yes, and Corey Pronman listed Nylander as the best prospect not in the NHL right now.

remember?

1. William Nylander, C, Toronto Maple Leafs (previous ranking: 4)
Current team: Toronto Marlies (AHL) | 2014-15 stats: 21 GP 8 G 12 A
DOB: 5-1-96 | Draft: No. 8, 2014

The top group were all close for me, and I would not say that putting Nylander No. 1 was an easy call. I leaned toward him because he stands out. His skill level is unique, his play in Sweden this year has been unique, the way he weaves through the neutral zone and gains the blue line effortlessly is unique. He's by no means a perfect player -- he has to improve his play off the puck and get a lot stronger -- but the upside is quite tantalizing.

The thing is, I find Pronman ALMOST, but not quite, as bad as Button.

Button is a straight up idiot though.

Redline Report is my favourite. Don't have any stats to back up that they're rankings are good but they make the most sense to me(although there's always a few players I disagree on).

I'll take your word for it as I've yet to see him play in the AHL. But will get to see him next year when the leafs rush him into the lineup.

Update

ClubSportStats now have these ranking, (chances to make the playoffs)

Ottawa 65.5%
Boston 38.9%

I'm guessing this is based on Boston's tougher schedule Vs Ottawa's.

Fact is that Boston has to lose more games to realistically allow the Senators, who need to win most of theirs', to get in.

I know that is what you are praying for so you can keep searching the internet for Leafs articles to post..but everything about the way the leafs operate has been changed now. You have not been paying attention..or you just chose to ignore the info you have been shown..

Well you got me there. I think Shanahan will do fine, it's not going to happen overnight. Are Leafs fans ready for 2-3 more years of losing if it means bringing about meaningful change?

as opposed to what? the past 10 years of winning

that question always makes me laugh.. like we have had it so good.. are we willing to sacrifice and put up with losing now.

the team has sucked while not building a solid prospect pool and developing them... I think we can put up with sucking and building a solid prospect pool and developing them

Fair enough. Sometimes we outsiders get confused after reading posts and opinions over that time where things were just peachy.
