Proof, or it didn't happen.

What was not to like?

How do you separate William Nylander’s sizzle from his fizzle?

In an informal survey of NHL scouts conducted by the Sun during the recent world junior championships, most of the hockey bird-dogs polled had pretty much the same observations regarding the Team Sweden star.

In fact, if you looked down at their notepads — or, in these modern times, iPads, as the case may be — you’d likely see a report along these lines:

- Remarkably skilled with the puck.

- Uninvolved without it.

n Needs to get bigger to withstand the rigours of the larger bodies and scaled-down rinks he’ll have to deal with on this side of the Atlantic.

When you take those reports into account, the logic of the Maple Leafs’ move on Monday to bring the highly touted Nylander to the American Hockey League’s Marlies from MoDo of the Swedish League makes perfect sense.

read it all at http://www.stcatharinesst...ylander-from-swedish-team

I heard this on one of those pre game banter sessions on Sportsnet I think, back when he was promoter from the SHL to the AHL.

What logical purpose would I have in making this up?

If they were pleased with what they saw of his game, in whole, at the WJC, then they would have left him in Sweden.

In any case, the leafs-braintrust finally did the right thing for this young mans' NHL development, and now he's on the right track. albeit a little late.

Quote from the leafs management that says what you said they said or (frank) off.

Them bringing him over to the AHL had nothing to do with the WJC. It had to do with him playing for a poor club team, that just had their coach fired and him producing elite level and deciding that the mess of the team he was on and his production to that point meant he was better off moving on.

He played fantastic in the WJC. He had a great showing.

He was 2nd in tourney scoring..... Yeah he was terrible.

He had a great tournament. It's no surprise that an 18yr old skilled player has work to do away from the puck.

Are you going to continue to ignore the request to post a quote from the leafs management that you claim they said? I suspect you will.

Oh and new prospect ranking from pronman has nylander listed as #1.

He's terrible though.

Yeah they said he has thing to work on big surprise. Did they say he was terrible?

2nd in tourney scoring..... He had a great tournament.

How funny is it that you say the scouts said he wasn't good, and the quote you copied from the article says he's remarkably skilled with the puck......but the scouts surveyed say he sucked.

He was fantastic, 2nd in pts for the tourney, but not according to the scouts (not what the quote says, but whatever).

Also dopes said that leafs management said "X" and has been asked several times to provide a quote of this, and has not been able to do so.

No I guess you are right, there probably was no one from the leafs management brain trust at any of the games held at the ACC. And they were absolutely fine with with his play in Modo, and did not see anything wrong with his development.

However, in the real world, when watching Mike Zeisberger, of the toronto Sun, on Sportsnet, saying that he surveyed a number of the NHL scouts in attendance at the WJC, leafs scouts included, that it was evident they were not happy with his play away from the puck, and that this lead to the leafs management brain trust to rethink their original decision to send him to the SHL.

You should be happy that the leafs management brain trust finaly have set things right. If they were happy with every aspect of his game, then why would they move him up to the AHL?

Wednesdays' game might settle that, for the time being. Neither team is on track to make the playoffs, now that the leafs have plummeted down to reality after sitting fourth in the Conference (second in the Division) just over a month ago

Here is Mirtle's take

http://www.theglobeandmai...xt-level/article22417364/

Nylander, 18, has three things working against him making the big leap to the NHL, something he’s not expected to do until next season at the earliest.

His lack of a refined defensive game and lack of size are two key factors, as he is under six feet and only about 175 pounds.

The other this is learning the North American game, which includes not only the smaller rink – something that should be less of a problem given he grew up in Canada and the U.S. while his father was playing in the NHL – but also handling the physicality.

It’s there the Leafs brass have some concerns.

The fact that Detroit has 4 guys on that list is the true sign of how pathetic and bush league the Leafs are compared to actual contenders.

Hearing lots of leafs trade rumours involving Dion Phaneuf,Phil Kessel & Joffrey Lupul.

Might be a sign that the leaf are leaning towards being sellers at the trade deadline.......but probably mostly rumours though, as this is part of the soap opera that happens when the same team starts the season strong, and then coming crashing right back down to earth again, like last year.

Carlyle, who was the problem last year, too.

Bernier's injury wasn't the sole reason the Leafs ranked, it was the straw that broke the camel's back.
